Poll question: Will the New Pope Support War with Iran
If we end up going to war with Iran, what do you think the Pope will say.

1. "Bush is satan..."
Isn't that the appropriate response to almost any political question?

6. That's NOT the question. This Pope is conservative and supports Bush...
Edited on Wed Apr-20-05 01:15 PM by Zinfandel
he helped Bush in the 2004 election. Telling Catholics not to vote for Kerry, (indirectly).

We all know Bush is "Satan" but, will this right-wing nazi Pope say that...get fucking real!

Of course this Pope will say, when Bush invades Iran... "Bush is acting on God's behalf"

7. Whoa, answering with frivolity isn't always bad ...
...we've had so many Catholic/Pope posts I'm NOT going to take everyone seriously.

I am well aware of your assertions; I am also aware that Catholics as a group voted essentially as Americans did as a whole (in the last election), the odds are that this will continue to be the case ... American Catholics famously pick and choose what they will follow------how many Catholics do you really know that don't use birth control? Catholics divorce at the same rate as the rest of our country...

Though I would have preferred a more liberal pope and a pope from one of the developing nations-----in truth this pope will probably have little or no effect on American politics.

8. I agree with you to a point, as far as how most Catholics vote...
Edited on Wed Apr-20-05 01:33 PM by Zinfandel
However, what this conservative Pope's says, still has and will get a lot of air time on Fox and the rest of the corporate media to justify Bush's positions as holy.

I know many Catholics, who devoutly do as the Pope demands as far as contraception (we must produce more Catholics in the world), and I know just as many feel Catholics who feel very strongly about never getting divorced, (even when their life and marriage has destructed into complete disintegration).

But again, we all consider Bush to be Satan, but the question being, would this neocon Pope ever actually say it? Not a chance!

17. you pay close attention don't you
Did you happen to notice the former Pope's meeting and conflict with Bush over the Iraq War, or his repeated public statements renouncing the crisis?

14. Just a hunch. ;-)
Popes have opposed every war from WWI to the current Iraq War with the one exception of Afghanistan since that was considered to be a just war.

9. Lutherans are just bad but MUSLIMS ????

Muslims are anti-Jesus and anti-God. Therefore, brining down an Islamic regime would be good in this Pope's eyes.

If it happens, I expect utter silence from Rome.

11. Amazing. Ratzinger is one of the strongest on ecumenical dialog
Edited on Wed Apr-20-05 08:47 PM by Tinoire
It would be wise to do a little research on the man you're smearing before uttering such an idiotic statement because it makes Liberals look utterly stupid. If you're going to smear, at least try to be in the right ball-park! Ratzinger has been one of the strongest voices on this issue despite this talking point that you got God only knows where.

Muslims are anti-Jesus and anti-God? That may be what you believe due to the sad state of cultural awareness in this country but it's far from what either Ratzinger, the Catholic people or the Catholic Church believe.

When it came to greedy Americans slaughtering Muslims in Iraq, Rome was not silent and Ratzinger was not silent.

I think you're confusing the silence you HOPE to hear from Rome with the chilling, complicit silence we know we can continue to expect from hypocritical politicians and members of the Democratic Party.

10. There are a lot of reasons to be disappointed in the choice

of Ratzinger. His stance on war and peace is not one of them.

18. I hope that Ratzinger will oppose a US attack on Iran
just as the Polish Pope opposed the attack on Iraq.

If Ratzinger were to do otherwise, then he would expose himself as Bush's war crimes pal.

19. Again, on issues of war and peace he's been on the side of peace.
It is his stance on other issues that made me so disappointed when the choice was announced...

12. Those of you who say he would support it are horribly ignorant.
I'm sorry, but it shows you want to believe the worst things you can about Pope Benedict for some odd reason. Every bit of evidence available indicates he would condemn it harshly. Many of you people are no better than some of the religious fundies who bash the Catholic church in my area. Think rationally and act on facts not wild assumptions about people. You are emulating the Republican hate machine perfectly.

The Rat would say that killing for Jesus is a good thing. And since Jesus would probably be an oil baron if he lived today, what they fuck...

Can't see how this would cause people to believe he'd support war with Iran. Some people's own prejudices cover up facts.
