6. That sounds like a winning ticket to me. Especially after so many
blacks left the Democratic party...but even if they hadn't...it sounds like a great ticket.

8. Because I don't feel that this country has come that far.
Edited on Tue Apr-19-05 09:01 PM by Stand and Fight
I have seen how people on this board react toward African-Americans, and there have been a number of threads that make me question just how much Democrats really respect black Americans. I've been very offended by some of the posts of Caucasians and others on this site, and as a black man I do not feel that this country is at that point yet. I have witnessed so-called Progressives on this site make some definite racist remarks. That is, remarks that most blacks -- not necessarily the ones on DU -- would find offensive, and I'm not talking about the damn trolls that wander in here daily.
Do I think I'll see a black President in my life-time? I cannot really say, and while I do believe it is a possibility, I do not think that Obama will be the one.

13. Agree with you
Strangely enough I've found that most people who believe we'll have a Black President in the near future are white liberals. People of color, who are acutely aware of the realities of race in America, have few expectations such an event will ever happen.

15. Oh, don't get me wrong...
I do feel it will happen, but I seriously doubt it will be in the relatively near future. I believe we will see it in most of our lifetimes -- I'm 27 -- but not in the near future. I am guessing -- and this is only a guess of gut feelings -- that it will be another 30 years. A lot of the bigoted idiots have to die out, and that is because a lot of them remember the "idyllic years" before Civil Rights became successful. Conversely, I do not feel that the Civil Rights movement is over and has been in hiatus since the 1970s. What must be recognized in this respect is that Civil Rights is not just a black issue, but an issue of the minority being repressed by the majority. Until Civil Rights activist are willing to defend all underdogs -- black, white, gay, women, etc... -- the Civil Rights movement is far from over; likewise, we will not see equally qualified Americans -- the underdogs -- elected to high office until Civil Rights continues vigorously. Can this happen in our lifetimes? I certainly will do my part in bringing about a second Civil Rights movement.

...so he's NOT what he seems to be.

5. There will never be a elected Democratic President.
Diebold and the the black voting boxes won't allow it.

23. I personally believe the people who believe that the elections were rigged
are wearing their tin foil hats on way to tight and have moved into a non reality paranoia.

The reason for my post was to get the exact response you posted.

That whole diebold issue is a red herring to move us to the fringe.

24. Then you are wrong
"I personally believe the people who believe that the elections were rigged are wearing their tin foil hats on way to tight and have moved into a non reality paranoia"

The freepers have been saying the same thing since November.

Guess what, they're wrong too.

18. This is EXACTLY the attitude
that's destroying us.

I don't care if you think the elections were stolen. But demoralizing us and saying it's useless to do any work because the system's rigged, pisses me off to no end. Such talk only undermines out ability to do good.

25. I'm so glad you think that
because you are exactly right. I left the sarcasm tag off the end of my post to see what reaction I would get.

It seems their are a few around that think the same way I do.

Not only does it undermine our ability to do what is right, but it gives the opposition ammunition to paint us as wacko and extremist

We will never get to the point of being able to win anything if people in general think the democratic party has moved to the fringe

10. I honestly don't see a black Democrat winning
There is still a lot of racism in America, it just isn't as overt as it used to be.

12. The first black president will likely be a moderate Republican
but not in my lifetime. As for Obama, he has great potential. I know rednecks here in southern Illinois that voted for him and if you ask them why they will tell you "because he came here". The guy has guts, brains and charisma ..... don't underestimate him

17. The last year of his first term as Barbara Boxer's Vice President
We are living in such insane times, and MANY Americans are aware of the rigged game we're living in, I encourage ya'll to be open to miracles or stunning shifts in the ill wind of the Wrong Wing regime.

19. I really hope for Clark/Obama, too...
Because it seems obvious that if Clark won and got two terms, his VP would be the next in line, and difficult to beat. Obama WILL be President of the United States one day. I hope it's in 2016.

20. If he runs, he'll get elected.
Getting him to run and getting the party to support his run are the biggest barriers.

I think that Obama can transcend the racial barrier, even with people who are characteristically prejudiced. He is absolutely mesmorizing. He brings out the hope and energy in us that Americans are becoming desperate for. He's extraordinary.

And anyway, I think the polls would see a record turnout of dem and progressive voters, women voters, young voters, minority voters, and new voters in general if Obama ran.

21. "Our Greatest Citizen?"
I would put a hell of a lot of people before Abraham Lincoln as "Our Greatest Citizen," not the least of which would be the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Obama has yet to impress me.
