Democrats Need More Days Like Today
Biden going on a rant about Bolton's lies, Boxer speaking up about Lugar's tactics. Kerry making an impassioned plea to "add to the record" on Bolton. Every Democrat on the committee did a great job today standing up to the Republicans. And it convinced Senator Voinovich to force a delay on the vote. We don't know that he would have voted "no," but I think he knew that the Republicans weren't about to risk finding out.

The upcoming battles on judiciary and on the floor of the Senate, along with this battle on foreign relations, are going to be key. Our Senators need to take principled stands like they did today. When they do, Americans will respond in kind.

1. What would cap it off would be...
Corporate Media giving it the airtime and column space it deserves.

2. Know this:
Voinovich ain't no naif. He came into that room today with misgivings about Bolton, but being a good party man, he was ready to go along. The Dems brought the noise. And the fire. Voinovich learned that there is a political price somewhere in this briar patch, and it would have to be paid, ultimately. So, he balked, bigtime.

One battle does not win the war, but sometimes, one battle is the pivot point, the Crossing of The Rubicon for one side or the other. What I mean is that this battle is illustrative of many, many other things and people can see those things.

They blinked. The Dems cut through their arrogance and their smugness and they blinked.

The Dems will learn from this. Ohyes, they will learn things true and valuable.

Many things changed today. Many things indeed.

8. Yes. Today was proof
of the strategy I believed they were using--conserving energy and credibility to fight the judiciary and U.N. agendas, while waiting for the G.O.P. to start screwing itself with its hypocrisy and unsustainablity. They've picked up some yardage from the Teri Schiavo insanity and DeLay, and hopefully can continue to press their advantage.

3. Yes, it was quite incredible!
I was spellbound, for a while I thought someone was going to be physical!
I couldn't believe my eyes and ears, when Voinovich made his statement!
Luger was astounded, to say the least.
And good old Kerry and Barbara ----- always fascinating to watch!
Obama added a special note with his persuasive argument.
I just hated when (I think it was Biden)said Bolton would probably be
voted in anyway!

13. The members of the Committee also...
...were aware that we were watching.
The InterNet is the nexus. MSM was not publicizing this event , and probably won't report on it.

Late in the afternoon the Chairman was handed a note. He looked up with an nervous expression and said: "Alot of people are watching!"

They know they are being held accountable by US!! They can no longer just ram through their agenda in obscurity and comfortable anonymity.

17. ABC World News Tonight
Charles Gibson did report on the Bolton hearing on the news tonight. He said the Dems won a delay in Bolton's confirmation, and that they want to scuttle the appointment.

Loved reading that! We don't get C-SPAN...

Yes!

There's been a subtle shift in the balance of power, and you summarized it well. I think we'll still see some chest-beating by the heavy-handed, but it will ultimately be detrimental to their position and cause.

We're turning this boat around!

22. RAIN ON YOUR PARADE...
We know it.We pay attention, we follow non-Corporate News. But turn on the MSM, and it's Ryan Seecrest on the Walk of Fame, and all Pope all the time. Oh, and democrats don't like DeLay, no film at eleven, no story either.

You MUST look outside DU if you want an accurate barometer. WE may think lots of good thing are happening, and maybe they are, but the American public STILL is not being told about it.

23. I got the sense last night
watching the rerun on C-SPAN that after Voinovich spoke up that the other Repugs (Lugar, Hagel, etc.) realized they were, at best, going to get a tie vote. If you saw the faces of the Democrats, they were almost giddy at the direction the committee was going. I was giddy watching the proceedings last night! Dems (I think it was Obama)were asking Lugar what would happen if there was a tie vote, almost bating Lugar to admit that he wasn't going to get it through this time.
