Anybody wanna bet Bolton withdraws?
He's such a SOB I'll bet he withdraws rather than face the possibility of defeat!

Also....there is a possibility that Dubya will ASK Bolton to withdraw!

3. If he withdraws they can demonize Democrats
because we were so mean that we forced him to withdraw.

8. too true
It was such classic Bush move. Nominate someone who is hellbent on dismantling the UN for UN Ambassador...

12. For some who's only semi-literate(at best) ,he certainly seems to have
absorbed his Orwell..."clear skies initiative" etc.

4. And then goes after everyone who
contributed to his embarassment. The man's a psychopath--he'll go looking for revenge.

6. Doesn't sound like his style...
... but the WH might think he's not worth the effort.

But, in this two weeks, you can bet that Cheney is going to be hounding a few members of the committee, relentlessly.

11. But with another two weeks to work with, think of all
the other distasteful stuff the Dems might uncover and verify. Maybe he'll withdraw rather than be embarrassed.

14. won't withdraw
here's how I see it playing out...

Voinivich will be subjected to some arm twisting over the next couple of weeks. The committee will meet, Lugar will call for a vote, there will be some sputtering and protests - but Bolton's name will go to the senate for confirmation

Dems will try various means of blocking the vote and get accused of being partisan and playing politics

after a few days of screaming and talkinghead blather -- the repug-senate pull out their rubberstamps and confirm bolton

15. Does he have a nanny? We may see a Bernie Kerik moment.
Maybe they'll find an unpaid parking ticket or an overdue library book in his past.

Of course this is just one skirmish in one battle in a long war.

16. I think so - to save social security "reform"...
If his baggage is as heavy as it seems, why would they waste political capital when SS privitation (and national sales tax) are the REAL goals?

The last thing this administration wants is to project to the people that some balance needs to be restored...
