Bolton committee vote DELAYED---- until after recess
Edited on Tue Apr-19-05 04:04 PM by underpants
Biden worked Lugar like a tool.

Two week recess I think.

They only had 90 hours to review the new documents on Bolton after Lugar requested State Dept. to comply with information requests.

Lugar to enocurage CIA State all agencies to cooperate.

Kerry just made sure Bolton can be called again to testify

Biden worked the room masterfully.

1. Thank you for posting this good news.
And thanks to Sen. Biden for showing Lugar how to hold his wiener at the grown-ups' urinal.

8. Glad We Won
But the fact of the matter is if Voinavich doesn't flip none of this happens. Lincoln Chaffee is still dirt in my eyes, I have to give credit to Voinavich on this one. One more thing Lugar tried to ramrod the roll call vote with no regard for the rules until he heard V. was flipping, then he became meek as a lamb and allowed disscusion, what a piece of work!

10. Don't celebrate too heartily. We haven't really "won" yet. Not until

Bolton is on the trash heap. He could still rise from the ashes like a turd to the top of the water in the bowl. This has just bought us some time, and we better make the most of it.

Bolton is damaged goods, and we need to work this sucker! Work on Voinovich to bolt again. Work on Chafee to have some decency and conscience. Work on Hagel to show some balls and some brains. Work on getting the dirt out as far and wide as possible on Bolton so he's slam-dunked OUTTA here. Call the Dems who showed such backbone and say THANK YOU, MAY I HAVE ANOTHER!!! Boxer, Biden, Kerry, Dodd, and others need to be told they did WAY good.

BTW: Voinovich needs bucking-up - and lots of THANKS from us Good Guys.

Here's his contact info from DUer K8-EEE:

Honorable George V. Voinovich 524 Hart Senate Office Building Washington, DC 20510 (202) 224-3353 Fax: (202) 228-1382 TDD: (202) 224-6997

Got this from FR, he's getting Freeped, support Voinovich for doing the decent thing!!

13. Sen. Voinovich's e-mail and the e-mail I just sent
First Senator Voinovich I would like to commend you on your actions yesterday (4/19/05) regarding the committee vote on John Bolton's nomination as Ambassador to the UN. Sadly in this day and age resistance in Congress to just being the Bush Administrations rubber stamp takes courage and commitment to the ideals of the Constitution.

As you can see I am not currently a constituent of yours but I was born in Xenia and lived the early part of my life in Yellow Springs.

I ask that you continue to demand accountability from Mr.Bolton and this administration. I strongly urge you to vote against Mr.Bolton's nomination, everything I have read about this man's career and strange worldview alarms me. He is not even close to the right man for that position.

3. Didn't Lugar say they'd take it into consideration? I heard
nothing about Bolton definitively testifying. Can the repugs come up with a lame-ass excuse why he won't/can't?

5. Kerry kept the option open
and Biden said he could be called unless bipartisan staff could resolve questions through interviews and such.

7. Didn't catch it all but
It seemed to me that Biden might have erred by agreeing to set a date certain for a committee vote. The foot-dragging within the government in providing information about Bolton will now continue and no real answers will likely be forthcoming.

Of course, not having a vote today is a victory of a sort. Perhaps that is all we really could have hoped for.

9. It was definitely more than what was probable...
Lugar kept trying to push the vote, he DID NOT want to hear another word about new allegations.

Our Dems stood firm and resolute and kept talking and talking, presenting information and pushing on the commitee, Sarbaness did a GREAT job of pushing back on Lugar about rushing the vote...

and what happened is that the Dems caused Voinovich to be concerned about voting the nomination out of committee today without investigating the allegations, so the repubs were faced with either a tie vote or investigating the claims.

that might come to light. Very interesting.

14. After RECESS? I don't like the sound of that!
Can you say "RECESS APPOINTMENT?" Sure you can! Bush is evil, and will do anything to get his way.
