Observation and Question
I think we should be working on the office of Secretary of States if we want clean elections. (in conjecture with methods of voting) here in Wisconsin ours is a Democrat, and I'll wager in the other "blue" states the Secretary of States are also Democrat and vice versa for the red states. We know Blackwell played a big part in Ohio as Secretary of State. So I'd like to ask, what state are you and what party is your Secretary of State and which way did your "vote"go for the state?

This is ours in Wisconsin: Doug LaFollette http://www.susps.org/candidates/lafollette.html

1. Kick! This is a VERY important strategy. I'm in California, where our
Democratic Secretary of State was just driven from office by a bunch of yapping chihuahuas. Now we have a republi-CON appointee. HELLO, PEOPLE! ANYBODY AWAKE OUT THERE? They've ABSOLUTELY targeted California. kkkarl rove believes in bold attacks on seemingly invincible targets - "attack them at their strongest point" - and obviously, California is one of those. We are under seige out here, because they're gonna do their level best to make sure we don't stay true-blue. I'm actually quite nervous about it.

Kicked and recommended. Wish I could vote more than once (here, too).

4. Yes, I saw that and it does
worry me, California is not a state we can afford to lose. I've noticed Rove out on the road talking about the SOS positions and the changing of the guard from blue to red, and I believe this is one important position in assuring the vote that most people don't pay attention to. Our SOS is now under attacks as being too tree-hugging and anti business, he is a member of the Sierra Club, which in my opinion is a plus, but it is being used against him now.

California, did not cause many ripples at the state convention this past weekend. Although I can't say for absolute sure - I was a volunteer, holed up in the registration room most of the time, and couldn't observe, no less participate, in any of the business events. I did read about it in the California Forum here, though, from one or two DUers who did attend as delegates and noted this, too. Maddeningly incomprehensible, isn't it? They have targeted California. They're going after the big one. They think they're gonna turn it. It's quite brazen. They know how to go for the gusto. I hope to GOD our people aren't asleep at the switch out here and let them snatch our state out from under our noses. Dean was here, and urged people to be bold. So did Arianna Huffington at one of the Sunday panel discussions. She nailed Democrats for being too timid and got roaring crowd approval every time she brought it up. Makes you wonder if the "leadership" is even paying attention.

8. They've targeted Illinois and Wisconsin
too. Just last week Rove was in Illinois and Wisconsin - and it was the Secretary of State position he was talking about needing to be changed. As we've seen in Ohio, they are the ones who put up the roadblocks on voting rights and after voting procedures of re-counts or contesting of the count.

10. And WHERE are OUR GUYS, talking about this same stuff?
And what the fuck is rove doing out campaigning?

He sure seems to be sticking his head out - awfully far these days. A signal, perhaps, of just how cocky he's become.

3. Here's an interesting twist on this .. sorta .....
See this post in the Maryland forum ......

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=157x1315

Our paper trail is being held up by a democrat. In a blue state. With a disliked republican governor.

What the hell is that about?

5. Go figure. Part of the reason we're in this fix to begin with, sad to say,
is within our own party. If it weren't for the enablers who caved at the first opportunity, when they should have been baying at bush's heels like attack dogs from the moment he first blighted the inside of the Washington DC city limits, we wouldn't be so extremely messed up as a country. But nooooooooooooooooo, they thought it would be much better to be nice...

11. The buzz seems to be that she is the one who was
behind the BBV thing in MD in the first place ... but there was never a hint that anything nefarious was afoot in her bringing them here. The dish now, however, is that, since it was her (committee) that got them here, and now that problems have shown up, she doesn't want to admit error.

Further, and I have no link to any story, but I know I read it locally, there was a court challenge to BBV and the court denied the suit. Maryland is likely to stay Dem for a while, but there are a lot of purple areas, to be sure.

I think the end game here will be BBV with print-outs ... but that's just my personal guess.

13. Well, maybe someone should tell her it's more
honorable to own up to mistakes - allot of people were fooled by the Diebold people - plus they were offered a good deal to use them - (I'll bet she buys from Door to door salesmen too)

12. I'm kicking this myself
because I'm convinced that this is important. I did mention it at the last Democrats meeting in our area, and all agreed that it is just as important as getting the paper ballets, that the SOS office remain Democrat or Independent, because of all we saw leading up to the election, from not enough ballots to the sending out of false info. If our SOS had been Republican, it would have been worse and no recourse if it came to a recount...

14. I'm kicking it, too. Sure wish someone else would nominate it.
Then more people would see it. It IS important. Goes straight to the BBV crisis.

17. Same
and I know this is important...especially since Rove has hit the road on it, makes me very nervous about the 2006 elections since SOS's are up for election this next round and most people don't pay attention or even know what they do...I've also been watching circuit judge appointments and every one of them Bush pushed through during recesses, have Election Rights cases behind them where they upset laws...or ignored the law...

WHEN do WE start getting good news again?

Sometimes I just hate even to get out of bed in the morning - wondering what the bad guys will be up to, trying to screw us into the ground AGAIN.

YES I know these things run in cycles. YES I know nothing lasts forever. YES I know that all things must pass - even this. But. It's. Taking. Its. Own. Sweet. Time!

I'm just so damned sick and tired of being discouraged all the time - to one degree or other. It comes in waves. Sometimes it seems almost unbearable and some days I can shrug it off because there's an occasional micro-grain of good news. But there is SUCH a fuckin' DROUGHT! It's worse than the not-enough-rain drought here in So Cal - that's still a prevailing problem despite the rains we've had here. WHEN does this end?

20. Agreed, it seems we have to go
broke and start over every time a Repuge is in the house and then finally start the haul out of the hole and prosper during a Democrat reign, only to be kicked back down again, to start over again...this is getting tiring and I'm getting really weary of starting over again and again, I'm running out of "new" career opportunities that I would even care to be associated with....

18. Okay, is everyone all Poped out yet?
How, about following Rove and seeing what he is up to? Like going to the Blue States and pushing his guy or gal for Secretary of State? This tells me this is important, don't you think? I'd like to know those of you in Red states - is your SOS red too?
