Extreme Christian T-Shirts
Listening to KFI this morning I heard about this group that is putting out "Extreme Christian T-Shirts."

Is anyone else bothered by this...I mean a t-shirt that says: "My God Can Kick Your God's Butt" - etc. etc.

What does this say about where we are going?

1. Should be "extreme hypocrites" t-shirts. Jesus was a pacifist!

9. I was watching a movie
called "School Ties" or something like that. A Jewish student in a wasp prep school was told that the meek shall inheret the earth. His response was, "How long will they remain meek once they do?" I had fever at the time, so it seemed profound.

5. Wow, somebody missed Sunday school a time or two
But these are the people in power in our country right now. It's up to us to wrest it from their greedy, grasping, blood-drenched hands.

17. Actually, these shirts are not for those "in power,"
but even more nefarious, it's aimed at their children.

Second-generation neo-cons. :scared:

"Our shirts are a little extreme, but I think God is spreading the word and having the youngsters shout out their faith."

What a wonderful disciple of Christ.

It makes me....shed a tear of joy.

22. They may have got the idea for their t-shirts from
some pagan t-shirts I've seen over the years: "My Goddess gave birth to your god," and "paganism - the REAL old-time religion." Maybe they just wanted to play catch-up with the pagans! (I'm NOT criticizing the pagan shirts - I'm a pagan who owns a couple of pagan t-shirts).

24. As a Pagan, I'd find that offensive. They are idolaters for they have
made God and Jesus out of their own image.

When a person, whether they are Pagan, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, or any other religious persuasion, fashions the Divine in their own image, whether that image be a statue or a figment of their imagination, that person is an idolater and a blasphemer against the Great Spirit. A true believer is open to the Divine Spirit that moves through all of Creation.

25. For a real Christian that would be blasphemy - as they only believe in one
God. Of course there is the flag, the U.S. military, the Republican Party, George Bush, etc - sometimes they get them confused with God as well.

15. I've seen all kinds of logo ripoffs
I can't believe that corporations give permission for these people to rip off their logos. The Coca-Cola logo has been used to say, "Jesus - the Real Thing". I saw a ripoff of Reese candy among other things. Why don't they get into trouble for this?

"Jesus wept."

If this isn't taking His name in vain, I suppose nothing is.

19. Maybe the concept of Blasphemy can't be condensed into a one line slogan
The one that makes me shudder is the window sticky with a spike being driven through a wrist. It says: Body piercing saved my life.

I want to make one that says: Nipple piercing saved my life, but unfortunately most of them wouldn't get it.

23. And Jesus would verbally kick their @ss
Didn't Jesus call hypocrites a "brood of vipers" and compared them to white tombs -- pretty on the outside and full of death and decay on the inside?

We need that saying of Jesus on a t-shirt with pictures of the GOP Horde on it

27. This dickhead at my school wore a shirt....
It said something along the lines of "pro-God, pro-Gun, pro-10 Commandments, any questions?"

And I just walked up to him and said, "Yea, did you run out of room to put "I'm also a jackass" at the bottom of your shirt?"

I chuckled and walked away.

28. I don't like this direction at all
When zealous ideologies, particularly those that claim, say -- the answers to EVERYTHING, or make broad, sweeping claims about being "right" or "chosen," are co-opted into another system, where the new ideology is a sick parody, or has little to do with the other -- such as a violent, provocative capitalist venture representing Christ -- it can never be good. A certain swastika comes to mind.

Also, the kind of logical disconnect that comes with fascism is the result of "magical thinking," usually comprised of a relatively new blend of ideology and mythology -- with a supremacist element. Welcome to right-wing Christianity.

29. It's just a dying religion using one last "marketing" breath
to try to make what should be one of the most beautiful and enduring stories in recorded human history, into something simply "cool," so the churches don't find themselves with empty collection baskets. Same with the megachurches and that GOD AWFUL Steven Baldiwn and his "punk" skaters.

And it IS a dying religion -- well, the spirit of Jesus in organized religion was largely dead a long time ago, unfortunately -- I'm thinking about the time the Catholics started selectively hearing the word of God, which would have been -- well, since the beginning.

Actually, come to think of it -- it IS a dead religion, and, at least in Western Civ, has about as much to do with racism and imperialism as it does with a holy carpenter -- what's left of it is a frail skeleton of Christ's teaching, covered with the fat of Mammon, Supremacy, Dominionism and Fascism.

I remember, in the small town where I went to college, there was a local church that sponsored some kind of Saturday night church meeting called "Rock-n-Roll" Church, as if anyone "rock-n-roll" in 1994 would be caught dead playing Scrabble, instead of letting a spaced-out pseudo hippie pour tequila and margarita mix down your throat--

(oh, sorry, just taking a walk down memory lane)

at any rate -- if the so-called supporters of the philosophies of order and religion believe in the classical notion -- of say -- Thomas Howard -- that the "regal borzoi" is cooler than the run-of-the-mill mutt, because "God Made It That Way," they would have figured out there's no POSSIBLE way that you can combine Stryper with a bean-bag toss and have it come out "cool."

They should just stop this, now, IMHO. If you have to "adapt" your message -- your message wasn't so "cool" in the first place. Or, you just stopped teaching the real message, in favor of the "Pre-Enlightenment Remix," and pretty soon, they loved Mammon more than you...
