My problem with the Bolton nomination
According to scrubbie, he is picking bolton to restore respect and integrity to the United Nations. Let me mention three of my problems with this assertion:
1) Most of the International Community still believes that the UN has integrity.
2) Any integrity the UN lost is perceived by people in my corner of the world (Korea), as having been caused by the scrub administration.
3) Scrubbie has NO...ZERO...NADA...BUPKUS...respect in the International Community. So NObody really believes that bolton will do anything, but further undermine the UN.

Now a personal note: I believe that making bolton the US Representative to the UN is like putting a serial rapist in charge of a women's shelter. The catastrophic results can be seen from a mile away.

1. I think we're all in agreement with you on this, at least on
this forum, and I hope to hell some votes can be swayed to reflect the disdain we have for Bolton. I think the repugs protest too much and recently that's never been a good thing for our country. Over and over again it seems they are trying to weaken and isolate the US and I just don't understand why. Someone on DU recently came to the conclusion that we have 20th century mentalities trying to operate in the 21st century, and it's just not working.

2. Bolton is Bush's way of saying "FUCK YOU" to the UN
We have to keep leaning on Hagel, he may switch his vote!

5. so you're going along with the Bush doctorine of alienation?
the international community DOES affect YOU, and you will realize that when they pull all of their investments off the dollar and you wont be able to buy a loaf of bread for less than $15. Saying fuck you to the world is not a good idea when they hold all our debt, thay can call it in, like today if they felt like it, and life as you and i know it would be gone. We are not the only people who yeild power on this planet, so just remember the people you "don't give a rip about" can wake up one day and flush our economy down the shitter. What a neo-con post if i ever saw one.

11. I beg to differ...
since the notes do have to be paid somehow when they become due, and they are usually paid by issuing new ones.

Aside from possibly the interest rate, the only reason anyone wants Treasuries is to return the dollars to the US so we can continue to buy their stuff. It beats the old days when the Bundesbank almost went broke buying Eurodollars when our European current account deficit was worse than it is now.

So, as the Chinese economy grows and we become less important as an export market, or we get pissier about pegging the yuan, they will have little need to continue buying our debt.

7. Baloney. The way UN members are selected is not
the issue. If the US wants to be a viable part of this world they better get with the program and stop alienating other countries. Bolton should be out because he's against the UN, as you seem to be also. :eyes: You don't think we need allies? Look at the mess in Iraq and think about it.

10. And I don't give a rip about...
the US Congress because I didn't vote for any but three of them, and DeLay and Frist don't represent me.

Or is that somehow different?

With over 130 military bases worldwide and several trillion dollars in international trade, we are inexplicably tied to the "international community" whether you like it or not.

4. He's part of the puzzle
"My problem with the Bolton nomination" -How about everything

He's part of the puzzle for war. With negropante feeding Bolton bullshit intelligence on how bad Iran is, and Bolton going to the UN asking for sanctions; the UN says you guys are crazy; Bolton says 'go fuck yourself'; and a merrily we go off to war christian soldiers, yay.

8. restoring respect and integrity to the U.N. in the same way he wanted to
restore integrity and respect to the W.H., or the same way he says he is SPREADING FREEDOM in Iraq.
