Liberals should be happy gas prices are going up...
or, according to this 'article', why are we bitching when we want to see comsumption go down?

------------------------------------------------
What is it about liberals and gas prices?

They rant and rave about overconsumption of gasoline, how it threatens the environment and our national security. They try to force reduced consumption through regulation and prop up alternative energy sources through subsidies.

But if gas prices rise, which might actually do something to reduce consumption, liberals denounce the increases and swing into action to reverse them. advertisement

Take Gov. Janet Napolitano's curious decision to seek a federal waiver from Arizona's requirement to use cleaner-burning gasoline during the summer. The only reason cited is to seek relief from rising gas prices.

Is he saying that we should be happy the world economy will be devastated if gas prices go higher. How f'in stupid can anyone be? His boy Bush is getting demolished, because of gas prices and the economy, and this is the best he can come up with? Maybe things are looking up for us Libs.

3. Not happy fuel prices raise food prices for the poor
especially since the rich go right ahead and buy their internal combustion toys despite the MPG rating.

Sorry about the GM employees getting axed, but not sorry GM is paying the price of not paying attention to the fact that it is a finite world. Toyota can't make the hybrid cars fast enough. GM thinks the problem is one of name recognition so they are slapping more labels on cars instead of really raising the fleet average.

Gas prices, no, not many of us are cheering the raises. We know there could have been better ways to conserve finite resources than just pricing poor and working class people out of the market.

Biomass and wise auto-making just wasn't on the agenda for Cheney's secret meetings...

4. Maybe we're upset
because we know that there are people out there making sub-subsistance wages to begin with who cannot afford an increase in fuel prices. In order to keep their jobs there will be some people out there who will skimp on food or medicine to be able to afford enough gasoline to go to work.....

8. Bingo!
people out there making sub-subsistance wages to begin with who cannot afford an increase in fuel prices

High gas prices, lower wages, tightening of bankrupcy laws, and everyone almost living off of credit cards. Great time to be a corporation.

Can you say slavery?

5. Petroleum prices going up...
Is a good thing for the future, if it leads to more investment in the total panopoly of alternative energy technologies. No one technology will be a panacae. Sadly, the amount of apparent effort in this country, much less investment, is sadly near non-existant, when measured against the GDP.

19. Orlando FL, I'm not sure but I think Jeb Bush our gov took the...
...state gasoline tax off which is $0.11 per gallon before his brother's re-election but has never bothered to put it back on, otherwise, I'm sure it would be right there with what the rest of the country pays per gallon.

9. I think the gas prices are starting to go down.
This morning, I saw where most of the gas stations are selling regular for $1.99. It was up to $2.16 last week.

if the money was going to fund alternative energy programs or to subsidize public transportation or other related programs.

When the money is going into the pockets of big oil, higher prices don't do any good.

This just sounds like a bitter rant intended to divert criticism.

13. I heard that gas retailers are seeing REDUCED profits, despite
these recent price hikes. Someone's making money, though....so we just have to follow the cash!

11. My goodness!
I didn't realize being a liberal was such a heartless proposition. I should want to see higher gas prices, because that means that the working poor will have to pay more to get to their minimum wage/below subsistence paying jobs.

And I guess I'm hoping that more soldiers die in Iraq so that . . . well, I'm not sure why I'm hoping that, but there are certainly a lot of know-nothing conservatives telling me I should want that.

And I'm rooting for the economy to tank, for the air to get dirtier, for water to be undrinkable, and, and, and . . .

Robert Robb is a dumbass moose twit.

12. The corollary to that is: Why must the pocketbook be the
determiner for what should be a sense of social responsibility?

Why can't people conserve and develop alternative resources without having an economic gun to their head? All the crap being dumped into the air and water as a result of fossil fuels is BAD for us...our health and the health of the planet should be the driver of change, not prices.

And in the meantime, the rich get richer, the poor, poorer, and we all get sicker.

14. The Oil Price Relief Act of 2005
Prices should go higher, $0.10 per gallon.

It should be assessed as $50 per ton of carbon emitted.

It would reduce consumption, and thus pre-tax price, but it would initially raise almost $90 Billion.

That $90 Billion, less administrative costs, should be divided among every american citizen, and paid back quarterly, like a dividend or a tax refund. The amount would be about $300 a year.

Most 'poor' people cause a far less than average amount of carbon to be emitted. They'd have some left over, after paying for higher fuel costs, with which to do as they please. I'd recommend insulation and low watt light bulbs.

15. Conservatives are short sighted idiots
Maybe we're unhappy because we've known about the problem of a coming oil shortage FOR THIRTY YEARS and dingleberries like Reagan, Bush I, Clinton, and Bush II did nothing about it. Yes, I'm including Clinton in the dingleberry list.

17. I am not happy
high gas prices raise the price of everything else. It is not really good for people who have jobs where they have to commute a long way. Now I have little sympathy for those who choose to drive vehicles that get abysmal gas mileage but still we are all in the same boat.

18. What an baffoon......
No,idiot stick...what Liberals have been saying for decades is that we need alternative fuels, and the vehicles to run that type of fuel.

I checked just the other day and there are still only about 20 makes of cars that will run on E85. Thats ridiculous to say the least. EVERY car coming out of Detroit or wherever should be able to run on E85,that fuel is usually about 30 cents cheaper, runs clean and is renewable.

Of course a farm crop cuts big Oil out of the picture unless they are buying up farm land. Its still politics as usual....
