Top Ten Ways I, Howard Dean, Can Turn Things Around
I didn't see the broadcast of this last night but did see some clips this morning. I think this shows that he has a good sense of humor and the writers gave him a couple (#'s 7 & 2) of supportive ones. On #6 he peeled back his jacket and he really sold #1.

10. "Switch to decaf"
9. "Unveil new slogan: 'Vote for Dean and get one dollar off you next purchase at Blimpie'"
8. "Marry Rachel on final episode of 'Friends'"
7. "Don't change a thing -- it's going great"
6. "Show a little more skin"
5. "Go on 'American Idol' and give 'em a taste of these pipes"
4. "Start working out and speaking with Austrian accent"
3. "I can't give specifics yet, but it involves Ted Danson"
2. "Fire the staffer who suggested we do this lousy Top Ten list instead of actually campaigning"
1. "Oh, I don't know -- maybe fewer crazy, redfaced rants"

1. To be honest I though #7 was kind of a dig.......
Rather than a "gimmie". I thought it was poking fun at the head in the sand approach. Maybe not.

2. I was embarrassed for Dean
It was nice to see him poking fun, but I feel it was a less than dignified performance. I felt sorry for him having to go on that show and make fun of himself.

4. I thought it was stupid
I saw howard 3 times last night. He had a good debate. His interview with Dianne Sawyer was great, but the Letterman gig was degrading.

If you didn't see the first 2 and only saw Letterman, you'd think he was a buffoon.

5. "dignified"
You know what that is? Spin to attempt to transform Kerry's wooden aloofness into a regal aristocratic bearing.

Me, I prefer a candidate who connects easily with the best in the common man, not a snob. That is what Dean has--that human quality--that genuine, fallable, energetic, even sympathetic human quality that is integrated into, rather than removed from the process. Kerry will never have it. Kerry has other things, like veteran status, but that doesn't rate high in my measure of what matters.

3. I think he has handled the "post rant" time very well
Edited on Fri Jan-23-04 10:32 AM by glarius
I watched him in the debate last night, make references to "the rant" in a light and non-ponderous way. He had just the right touch, I thought...Also the interview with Diane Sawyer I thought presented him well....I have a feeling this will blow over fairly soon and won't be the death throes to his campaign that has been predicted by the pundits....IMO....:)

I think he did well on Letterman's top 10 list too

7. if you could have heard how people in Australia talked about Bush
before the last election..just about everybody thought he was a brainless dill who didn't stand a chance. He made so many gaffes and blunders that I think you are all forgetting because you are too close. This Dean 'scream' is just a blip on the radar..it will be over in a fortnight. Just forget it and get on with the real business of getting one of these guys up and running and support him to the hilt.

Everyone I know thought Gore would win easily..well he won but it wasn't easy because it was rigged.
Kerry said it in the debate..stop letting these Republicans and their media whores set the agenda.
