Email letter to Senator Chafee re Bolton
Below is the fourth email letter I have sent to Lincoln Chafee, as he is the potentially fluid vote that could tie up the nomination of John Bolton for U.N. Ambassador.

At the moment it's probably 10-8 for Bolton. If Chafee changes his vote, it's 9-9 and the nomination is frozen.

Please bombard Senator Chafee with polite appeals to his sense of global peace and international diplomacy, goals much more associated with Chafee than with someone like Bolton.

Chafee's webform for an email contact is:

The letter:

Senator Chafee:

I believe you know full well that John Bolton has spent a good deal of his career trying to dismantle the United Nations.

I do not believe peace is an easy global goal; but it is far more daunting when the United States' ambassador is pointedly opposed to bodies working to attain that peace.

John Bolton is a cynical, in-your-face choice for that job. He is pridefully belligerent, a product of the xenophobic Jesse Helms brand of narrow-minded representation. You are not of that tradition and I am respectfully asking you to distance yourself from it and help defeat this nomination.

The world is keeping vigil over diminishing prospects for peace. I ask you not only to vote against this nomination but to publicly demand that this president name instead someone who actually cares about world peace and whose efforts toward that goal are demonstrable and acknowledged.

In appointment after appointment after appointment we are given pro-torture attorneys general, far-right wing nutcases, yes men, yes women, and now an overt bully for the U.N., an admittedly imperfect organization that nevertheless strives to make a better, more peaceful world.

Please vote against this cynical and repellent nomination.

Thank you for your consideration.

1. Done!
I wrote on the premise he might want to have an opinion from a resident of a "red state". Should be interesting if I get a reply. Hope the fellow does the right thing and helps to quash the nomination.

2. Thanks for throwing in on this, ayeshahaqqiqa.
It would be a very good thing to turn back this awful nomination.

3. Just sent him an email from MA.
Sure would be nice if we could send him a bunch of email from around the country. (It would be even nicer if every Rhode Islander sends him an email.)

4. Yes. I'd love it if the anti-Bolton emails flood his office --
-- between now and Tuesday's vote.

5. The DailyKos is reporting that Chafee does not seem --
-- to be making much of an effort for fundraising, considering he is under sharp attack in RI, and that other incumbents have raised far more for safer seats.

Whether he runs or not, we could sure use his vote to make this a 9-9 result.
