Noticed a trend lately re: 2008 talk?
Two conservative guests on The Daily Show in the last week, one the author of "Vast Left Wing Conspiracy" and the other of "Independent Nation", both of them saying the tide will turn in this nation in 2008. IOW, "our side wins". Why not in 2006? How can we stand it for FOUR YEARS?

1. I didn't think the author of the Independent Nation was a conservative.
I listened to him tonight, and I thought he made a lot of sense by saying the majority was in the center, but both parties are being run by the extremists.

I do agree that several of Jon's guests, and a number of talking heads have been saying, efectively, that the tide is turning and the Pubs are over-reaching. I agree with that too.

I'm hoping for a big turnaround in 2006, but it's going to take longer than that to make a major shift. There sinply aren't enough people up for reelection to make it all happen in one election.

2. Well, he ain't a liberal.
And I don't like "centrist" talk. It's so DLC.

He surely mentioned McCain a lot. I think he was on there for that purpose. And he had Kennedy on his book. I don't know if Kennedy was a centrist though. Didn't he have Kerry on his book cover too? I don't think Kerry is a centrist at all. He just works with others well. First Kerry is the most liberal in the Senate and now he's a centrist. I'll never get it.

10. "A lot"? He dragged McCain's name in every time he said "centrist"
And McCain isn't a centrist. He's as right wing as Smirk, except for a couple very popular issues that he flogs to death.

In 2000, Smirk was hyped as "a different kind of Republican" and "a compassionate conservative". Now McCain's being hyped as "a centrist who can heal our divided nation".

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

7. I hope so
I hope they are turning. I think there's too much unbalance going on and things are just popping. Right now I think all we can do is just work on 2006 and talk to people and a lot of grasswork. I know I've mentioned before, but here in my town we just had a mayoral race and the guy who won (the person I voted for yippie!) was interviewed and he was talking about how he didn't use quite as much money as the other canidate he was running against and he found what worked best was sending out information to people (had had a very nice little booklet that was clear and had his plans out) and talking to to people as a person and not as a voter. I think we all have to do what we can for 2006 if we're going to have this change. We can't let the republicans frame issues and debates if we do want change I think. I do think the republicans are very high on power and maybe people are seeing this. One can dream.

3. Nothing else matters until votes are really counted.
Just try to get your vote counted now. Fat chance! Everything else is irrelevant.

4. That's exactly right.
Everything else depends on it.

5. It does not matter who votes
but who countes the votes... paraphrasing Joe Stalin, who has become a favorite of these thugs... yes there is heavy irony in there

9. So true
I just hope we can get rid of all the voting machines. Especially in battle ground states.
