60 Minutes with Italian journalist pre-empted by Billy Graham
Edited on Wed Apr-13-05 07:53 PM by southlandshari
here (I'm in Alabama, closest CBS station is in Columbus, GA).

Anyone else try to tune in to this unpleasant surprise?

A few have posted here:

I both want to know and don't want to know how many markets have suffered this bullshit....

On edit:

This was the 60 Minutes (2?) program that was to feature the first mainstream U.S. media interview with Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena, who was released by her Iraqi captors only to be shot and nearly killed by U.S. soldiers who supposedly knew her convoy was en route to the airport. I do not think it is insignificant that this pre-emption took place on this night, on this channel, at the same time this particular show was supposed to air.

3. Which one did you watch in Virginia?
Billy Graham or 60 Minutes?

Apparently this happened in lots of markets. I've read posts from Texas, Kansas and Georgia (maybe more) about the Graham pre-emption in the past five minutes.

Reminded me of when Scott Peelee got all weepy-faced with big giant hero Bush on Air Force One interview after 9-11.

7. That's disappointing but not surprising
I still would have rather seen the show - that was scheduled to air on all CBS affiliates tonight - than tune in to a religious right lovefest.

12. I think you're right.
We've seen quite a bit of this lately - programs set to air that stand to be critical of *, pre-empted by boiler-plate fundie swill. It's a problem.

13. I got the regular 60 minutes program here in Ga.
Interview with the Italian journalist was very impressive. She sounded very credible, and said there were no warning shots, no arm waving that she saw, and that their driver was in constant contact with both the Italian and American people in charge. They were driving about 30MPH with about 700 meters to go till the airport. They rounded a bend in the road, and the Americans opened fire.

They also had an retired Marine on who had the job of guarding the roads in Iraq. The warning shots are very difficult to hear, and waving arms are almost impossible to see. What he did was steal an old Iraqi STOP sign. Suprisingly, it looked similar in shape to ours. He said he put it up a 100 or so yards from the check point, and it worked wonders. "The recommendations of the Pentagon to use warning shots and arm waving just didn't work."

It was a good show.
