Bush recount troops land plum D.C.jobs
Many of president's appointees fought Gore's bid to take Florida, White House

BY CAROL ROSENBERG

John Bolton, undersecretary of state for arms control, caused a stir in May by accusing the Cuban government of transferring bioweapons technology to rogue nations. Nineteen months ago, he caused a different stir -- bursting into a Tallahassee library on behalf of the Bush-Cheney campaign to stop a recount of Miami-Dade County ballots.

Matt Schlapp, a former congressional aide, is currently White House special assistant to the president and deputy director of political affairs. In November 2000, he was part of the supposedly spontaneous window-pounding protest at Miami-Dade County Hall that brought to an end the first recount of Miami-Dade ballots.

Sue Cobb, a Coral Gables developer, today is the U.S. ambassador to Jamaica. Twenty months ago, the generous Republican donor volunteered her legal skills to the Bush-Cheney campaign -- working as part of the legal team that contested recounts in Miami-Dade.

Although they now serve President George W. Bush in sharply different roles, the three share a common experience. They are among more than 50 political appointees found by The Herald to have served as troops in the frantic Florida recount battle that followed the Nov. 7, 2000 election.

2. UN a reward
Sounds like Bush is rewarding the thugs who helped him steal the election and/or prosecute the war in Iraq: e.g., Wolfowitz and Bolton.

Now he's supporting DeLay, who sent the goons to Dade....

5. This UN thing is not a reward, according to Palast
He is being demoted to this mouthpiece role from a policy-making position at State. Put out to pasture. No one lasts very long at this U.N. ambassadorship anyway, and even fewer will listen to him there anyway:

12. I like that even better.
Nothing like a knife in the back by the BFEE to set little piggies squealing. Give him a year or so, just in time for the 06 election, for his come-uppance tell-all book.

7. It seems obvious that he committed perjury
in his confirmations hearing on Tuesday, re his "courtesy call" to the Department of State. It will be very interesting to see how Chafee votes on this nomination. To me, this will be something that will show his(Chafee's) true colors.

8. The neo-conservatives are traitors to our US Constitution not defenders
of it-it's our American rallying point, the Constitution is US.
Bolton and his crew actually defiled our Constitution in Florida in 2000.

9. I wonder if anyone's found a photo yet...
No, not the "recount" photo. I mean, the one with the thugs threatening to break down the door.

That would be the jackpot, IMO.

11. There is one circulating. I've used it in graphics before.

(HEAVILY EDITED FOR UPDATED LINKS)

In fact, I used it as the background for the title graphic for the web site Timbuk3.com. I did a new one after the 04 fiasco, but he's left the original header up on some pages, and I think there is a link to a description of the photo as well. A quick Google turned up the photo (link below) PLUS a recent (1-05) article entitled "Where are they now?"

ON EDIT: Where Are They Now w-Photo

DISCLAIMER - I didn't read it or look to see who is in the picture. I'm just posting the link.

13. Nope, he's not in this one:

I'm wondering if there's evidence that Bolton was indeed part of the "storming of the recount." I haven't seen it yet, except what's been written.
