I watched the Senate hearing on John Bolton this afternoon....
...was a broadcast of the hearings earlier in the day and the former Intelligence and Research (I&R) Director Carl Ford was called as a witness as to Bolton's harassment and intimidation of subordinate analysts under Carl Ford. The testimony was damning of Bolton's abilities to work with people, yet every republican on that committee to a person attempted to blast the messenger, Carl Ford and sweep Bolton's character flaws under the carpet. Every democrat voiced their concerns and went on record stating they would vote against Bolton. The committee co-chairs Lugar and Biden will arrange when they will reconvene the committee to vote their recommendation to the senate.

After hearing the testimony from Carl Ford, I can not see how the senate could vote for this man to serve as UN Ambassador. Biden came out and suggested that Bolton was probably lying yesterday in his testimony to the committee. If Bush and Rice get their way and John Bolton is appointed, we can kiss the UN goodbye and we can all be certain that the United States will engage in endless wars throughout the world until either the U.S. is destroyed or the world is destroyed.

2. It looks as if he will be confirmed
and that is a horrific shameful testimony to the depths to which the Republicans will sink. Absolutely horrific. I will say that Biden and Boxer and Dodd, did put up the good fight. I will say that the Republicans, apparently do not care, for to them, the end justifies the means and the end, in this case, I think, is to control the UN.

The man is an evil, uncontrolled loose canon in the PNAC Machiavellian mode.

10. And I agree except you are guilty of understatement.....
....Bolton is an evil fuck who is an uncontrolled nuclear cannon, molded from the mucus and slim that is PNAC and even Machiavelli would vomit at the sight of this total ass hole. :puke:

That is what Carl Ford, the witness at the hearing today would say off the record about John Bolton.

3. I Don't Get C-Span 3 BUT
I watched all day yesterday. The hub-bub from today's hearing is that he will DEFINITELY be CONFIRMED!! I saw a little excerpt by connnecting to C-Span 3 today and Chafee is really BIG for this guy. Even Lugar states the President SHOULD have the nominees he wants confirmed!! Unless there are some Repukes to break with the Party Line.... this is a done deal!!

And an OUTRAGE!!! The guy is a whack job!

And just an added note here... that HAIR looks FAKE, but they also showed the 1994 clip and the hair was the same, just darker. Still, after 10 or 11 years does the hair styles stay exactly the same???

Got MILK Bolten?????

6. Yeah, Bolton will be confirmed...
... but I don't think he's going to single-handedly destroy the UN. He's certainly going to try to mold it in the neo-con image of the institution, but I think, literally and figuratively, the UN is a lot bigger than John Bolton.

As has been made pretty clear in the hearings, Bolton (and Cheney) want to remake the UN into a tool of the US, far beyond the influence that the US has inherently in the structure of the organization. My general feeling is that the UN will wait out Bolton and the US. Bush and the neo-cons will be gone in a few years. After all, the UN survived years of the US withholding its dues at the urgings of Bolton's mentor, Jesse Helms. They'll survive Bolton, too, but probably not without scars and bruises.

8. I agree. The US is over as a world leader. We are the biggest
debtor nation and we have proven our lack of credibility. This is just a foolish pipe dream of the whacked out neocons. The US is history, thanks to BushCo.

12. As you suggest...
... Bolton is going to do some damage, but I think more to the reputation and standing of the US in the world community, rather than to the UN.

There's no question that he's a bad nomination, but the neo-cons run things right now, and they will continue to do so, until they are out of office, or they run us into the ground. Bolton is just symptomatic of their single-mindedness.

7. Not a single appointment...
... is going to be blocked, so I find the whole thing a charade and a waste of time.

In previous confirmation hearings, the disconnect between the rhetoric and the votes cast is stark.

It's nothing more than an ersatz Kabuki theatre. A bunch of posturing and preening for nothing. A neutered dog barking at a bitch. Forget it.

14. MAYBE... The Appointment Could Be Just Another
NAIL in a coffin! Looking back on history, and not just American History, there comes a time when the charade is over. A time when the lights come on and a new awakening dawns. How long will this evil domination last? I don't know, but one only needs to look to Iraq and see that even SADDAM wasn't infallible. True the country is in shambles and terrible atrocities have been perpetrated upon it's people, but if they can still stand tall, then WE too must stay committed.

For me these people in power are contemptuous, pompous and EVIL, but I have to believe that it will end some day.

I HAVE to believe that in America, we SHALL overcome, unfortunately for now we are living with the UGLY AMERICAN! In America, where Democracy is touted throughout the world, there now is a shroud covering up the stink. But the rot will ooze out and the smell will become far too evident, only then will we be able to remove this "damn spot"!

Until that time, just bang, bang, bang the drum slowly and reach out to each other and weave our net. We've got to BELIEVE!
