1. Yeah ... right ...
Appropriate that this was published on April Fools Day.

Venezuela and/or Cuba could possibly sink a couple of ships and maybe even destroy an oil platform or two (a certain ecological disaster, btw,) but the idea that any attack on the United States from any nation in this hemisphere could endure for more than a couple of days is nonsense.

Yeah, they could cause some significant disruption of out oil supply for a while, but certainly not enough to cause the United States to "collapse" - simply because they couldn't sustain this disruption for any amount of time. Those MIGs of theirs would be dead in hours - and I hate to contemplate what would be done to the nation which launched them after that.

This is a moot point, though, because if Bush decides to go after Venezuela - it won't be a direct military attack, it'll be the old tried-and-true method of destroying uppity South American governments - assasination and/or a well-funded guerrilla insurgency.

3. More silly saber rattling
The more Chavez makes and supports asinine statements like that article, the more he give credence to the stereotype of the tin pot crazies who lead banana republics. Following in Fidel's footsteps is not doing his country any good.

The US is not going to land troops. Him or his sympathizers shooting first however will result in devastation from afar. AK-47 don't do squat against stand off weapons.

He needs to chill and take care of problems at home. There are certainly enough of them. Progressives need to lead by example, not by shaking AK-47s in impotent fury.
