John Kerry: A Million (Virtual) People Stand with Reid at Press Conference
John Kerry: A Million (Virtual) People Stand with Reid at Press Conference
6 April 2005

In an email just received from John Kerry on the Filibuster issue, Kerry thanked the over ¼ million supporters who signed his petition and acknowledges that over a million people have stood up on this issue through various activist groups…

Early this afternoon, Senator Harry Reid, the Democratic Leader of the United States Senate, held a press conference on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Thanks to you, there were a million people standing there with him.

That's how many dedicated individuals signed petitions and newspaper ads supporting Senator Reid's determined efforts to prevent Republican leaders from undermining democracy by making judicial nominations a narrow, one-party exercise.

I am proud to report that 236,498 of those signatures were submitted by you and other members of the johnkerry.com community. We added our nearly quarter of a million names to those collected by the Democratic National Committee, MoveOn.org and other citizens' groups.

1. Good grassroots organizing by a great American public servant.
Thank you, Senator Kerry.

Scratch that. Instead, make it: Thank you, President Kerry.

21. It's a big email list ...
And he's been using it with great success. Well over a half million people have signed the Kids First petition. He'll be starting a new push on that soon, very soon.

Nearly half million signed his Artic Refuge petition in less than 48 hours. There's no disputing that the Senator has got support and he's utilizing it well.

22. Yes, being the democratic nominee of course gives one a large e-mail list.
Again, I support Kerry's efforts. I'm sure any democrat would do the same if he or she were in his position.

2. I wonder how many of us here signed the three major ones mentioned?
I know I signed all three and another from a local state based movement. If they ever go over all the names on those I'm surly marked as a no vote. :D

Now that'd be great and if he and other democrats in DC would march too. I'd love that. If only.

17. This is great. The combined efforts of all of these groups
have produced good results. However, the fight is not over yet. IMP,we should keep the pressure on. Also, the involvement of all these groups should silence the John Kerry bashers. This isn't just his fight and it certainly can't be claimed that he has ulterior motives in trying to energize grassroots support.

19. Glad to get Reid's email today!
Would love to see them all appreciating each other's help and support on this... it oges a long long way towards unity in the party when they acknowledge each other's work.

Kerry was on the right track with his email on this yesterday. Meanwhile happy to see Harry continue to give them repub's hell!

He will have less of a challange with Chaffee and Snow than he will with Ben Nelson.

24. Did the media broadcast this press conference?
Or do we have to be satisfied with "all the choices" we have for viewing, like C-Span or the Internet?

26. Who stood with Reid? Were Kerry and others standing with him?
steps. Are there any photo's? I signed that petition for Kerry when I got the e-mail...but didn't see any coverage of it, although a DU'er did a "heads up" that C-Span showed it, but said it was over in just a couple of minutes. Was Kerry there with Reid?
