Senator Dorgan (D-ND) - End funding of TV Marti
Edited on Wed Apr-06-05 11:18 AM by paineinthearse
$189 million/year to broadcast TV signals into Cuba that the Cuban people cannot see because the Cuban government blocks.

"A tragic, thorough, complete waste of taxpayers' money".

"Unbelievable".

"Even waste has its own constituency here in Congress".

"A total waste of American taxpayers' money".

* wants to DOUBLE the funding (ref Rose Garden "get tough on Cuba speech")

* wants to beam signals from special ops C-130 aircraft designated "Commando Solo". Cost = $8 million.

* state department interview of exiles failed to turn up anyone who viewed it in Cuba.

Duh!

3. Corrected the subject line, thanks
I'm from Mass, we refer to that area as "one of those rectangular states".

No link, this is live Senate floor debate.

You can get a transcript in the Congressional Record tomorrow. I'm sure Dorgan will have a press release on his website soon.
