C-Span: Judicial Filibuster meeting: conservatives throw down the gauntlet
I listened to the approx 30 minute meeting with some press people (not a lot, maybe 20) and talking head conservatives.

There were about 10 conservative group representatives.

It included:

Grover Norquist (probably the most obnoxious, IMO: talking about how 'we don't want no stinkin'judges who raise taxes, are involved in social engineering, and judges that make stuff up'---no, I'm not lying about his wording);

some guy representing (get the unsubtle word play), American Civil Rights Union whose aim is to present the 'other side' to the ACLU (in their fantasies)...

and others.

When Norquist, who seemed to be the lead guy along with another one whose name I did not catch, was asked about 'well when is this nuclear option going to be used?----with what candidate----he stated he believes that Frist will use it 'sooner rather than later'----

If you wanted to combat the rhetoric of this 'nuclear option' you would have to get people to understand why cloture (the super majority, if I am understanding it correctly) is and has been employed for some processes and not just a simple majority.

I see this as the biggest card they would play: "well shucks m'am, its only fair, a simple majority"----thus playing on people's ignorance.

1. I hope Harry Reid follows through with his threat
Harry Reid has said he will shut down the Senate if Frist uses the "nuclear option", and I hope he follows through.

2. I agree
it may backfire, but again, I'd rather go down swinging and fighting instead of them slowly destroying me.
