Papabili (possible popes) mostly share conservative views
These snippets of three of the candidates for pope come from the Washington Post:

Cardinal Diogini Tettamanzi of Milan, Italy:
He has taken a tough line against what he terms “homosexual culture.” In one article, he wrote that the church was called “together with every person of good will, to denounce the very grave personal and social risks connected with accepting such a culture.” He also supports excommunication for “procured abortion.”

Cardinal Oscar Andres Rodriguez Maradiaga of Tegucigalpa, Honduras:
On many issues he is more flexible than many of his peers in Latin America, where conservative Catholicism is standard. But on issues of sexuality, his public statements have followed John Paul’s conservative line. He has suggested that the United States has exported liberal views on abortion and contraception to its neighbors, to their detriment.

Cardinal Claudio Hummes of Sao Paulo, Brazil:
Working in a society in which a tiny elite holds the vast majority of wealth, he became a leading advocate for the poor and a critic of the U.S.-backed free-market policies that were adopted in much of Latin America. He has stuck closely to Vatican doctrines prohibiting artificial birth control; he has reprimanded priests who have charged that the church’s position against condom use contributes to Brazil’s AIDS epidemic.

Papibili (loosely translated, popeable), according to something I read, rarely are actually chosen. Apparently the church likes surprises...

"I wasn't expecting the Spanish Inquisition..."
"NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition!"

^^^ Just one example
