1. not surprised
he has a pretty good position in the House, and it would be weird being in the Senate with his dad.

2. wonder if a deal has been made with Chaffe

6. Paine prediction posted in the RI forum a couple weeks ago:
Chafee will switch parties by the end of 2005 or early 2006....followed by Collins and maybe Snow.

7. I hope you are right
Chafee would be a good guy if he did not have to make party line votes. At least, he would be as good as some of our DINOs and may be better.

9. Snowe would switch before Collins
but neither will - and both will be fully on board the social security destruction train should it reach the floor of the senate.

10. Why switch to the minority
Chafee, Snowe and Collins will not switch to the minority party and lose their positions on committees, perks, etc. They have much more of a moderating influence as moderate members of the majority. They almost torpedoed the GOP's plans to open ANWR -- no thanks to Landrieu. They may consider switching if it would put us in the majority ala Sen. Jeffords.

13. No he announced last week he would not run
Edited on Wed Mar-30-05 07:07 PM by Mass
and said he endorsed Kennedy or Attorney General Whitehouse who as to now is not running. There is only another candidate Brown (RI SoS) ,and he will not win against Chafee according to the polls.

14. I find Patrick Kennedy to be a bit of an embarassment
He's not Senatorial timber although if you look around the Senate these days few are. In a state as heavily Dem as RI I would think the bench would be deep enuf to find a better challenger.

15. I dont know enough about him to judge
My main concern is more to know his RI has a viable candidate to beat Chafee and it seems that Brown is not the one.
