TX state rep.: Threatening letter/powder (over proposed telecom bill)

A state representative from North Texas received a threatening letter Tuesday containing a white, powdery substance, authorities said. The FBI is investigating.

Preliminary testing showed the substance in the letter at Rep. Phil King's Weatherford office is not lethal, Dallas FBI spokeswoman Lori Bailey said.

Two suspicious letters were turned over to the Texas Department of Public Safety — one received at King's district office in Weatherford and another that went to his Austin office, said a staff member who declined to be named.

King said the letter referred to his work on a telecommunications bill. "It's real odd that someone would take issue with it," he told Dallas-Fort Worth television station KDFW.
