Tres. Secretary Snow: "I could care less what the American People think!"
Yesterday, Treasury Secretary John Snow made it clear that the Bush administration could care less about what the American people think when it comes to President Bush's risky plan to privatize Social Security.

"I remain confident we will see legislation this year," Snow told reporters after delivering a speech today in Portland, Oregon. "I think private accounts are going to be an integral part of any solution. There's only one ultimate poll and that's what the Congress does."

The administration's sales pitch isn't working; the more the American people hear about Bush's privatization plan, the less they like it. So faced with overwhelming opposition to Social Security privatization in poll after poll, the administration is trying a different strategy: contempt for popular opinion.

2. Go ahead
"I remain confident we will see legislation this year," Snow told reporters after delivering a speech today in Portland, Oregon. "I think private accounts are going to be an integral part of any solution. There's only one ultimate poll and that's what the Congress does."

Once it's robbed Enron or S&L style, let the people decide who will be in Congress in 2006.

16. Exactly.
Nothing the people want matters as long as they can count on the machines that ensure their election. They have to go or democracy is dead.

25. Let 'em steal another one, particularly...
if everyone knows that public sentiment was hugely in favor of the other side! People will finally get it - it's all been a sham government since 2000.

I'm starting to think that's the only thing that will wake people up. There are few things that piss someone off like realizing they've been suckered.

Then say goodbye to the GOP.... FOREVER.

26. I think it'll take the friggin draft
to make most Americans wake up.

If anybody doubted that the powerful gave a hoot in Hades what the American people wanted, Snow's contemptuous (and contemptible) remark says it all.

I do think they'll let the wolfs have Tom DeLay.

The correct phrase is I could NOT care less, meaning I care so little about it, it is not possible to care any less.

34. So let me get this straight...
...you actually believe there's a correct and an incorrect version of this phrase?

I've heard both versions all my life, and the meaning is always quite clear regardless of the form used.

It's one of the funny things about language and idioms. The literal meaning can be different from the understood meaning.

Anyway, when you get right down to it, I could care less...

19. Didn't he get his talking points?
"I remain confident we will see legislation this year," Snow told reporters after delivering a speech today in Portland, Oregon. "I think private accounts are going to be an integral part of any solution. There's only one ultimate poll and that's what the Congress does."

Looks like they're off their game a little. He used the word "private", hasn't Frank Luntz declared that word verboten in this discussion?

20. Bush beter face a reality. He is despised.
The harm he has done to this country is unbelieveable. He's slashed eductation, health, veterans benefits, etc.

He is hated in this country. He will go down as the worst president in our history and more speed to that.
