1. EEG which is flat and has been flat
for now years. This signals no brain activity and no the stem does not produce any waves.

By the way godo question.

There are other standaards, but from what I understand as a former medic, a flat EEG is also one of the requirements to declare somebody dead.

3. The same way any diagnosis is made
Examine the patient, do the appropriate tests, examine the data, come to a conclusion.

The scan of what her brain looks like is a pretty good indicator of what the diagnosis was.

5. All of her treating physicians arrived at that diagnosis, not just one
But you've been here all week long and there have been several hundred threads on this subject.

Please flame me, but HOW COULD YOU HAVE MISSED IT OUT OF THE THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF POSTS ON THIS SUBJECT???

6. Is that an attack? I have been here off and on all week
But it's not like I've been here 24 hours a day and have been reading every single post on the subject. Frankly its a lot easier to ask a simple question than to parse the entire board until I find something that relates directly to what I want to know.

BTW I tried Google and wound up with "Michael Schaivo didn't even do an MRI" so aren't you glad I asked the question instead of running with that.

I hope you're just joking and "flaming me" because that was my subject line, but if you're not then "YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSH excuse me for breathing."

8. In that case .... sorry, I actually did go there and got some information
but I guess I'm just not a digger like some people on this board - no I'm just a bad, bad, bad monkey.

9. If you read Judge Greer's first decision
which is highlited on the timeline, he summarizes the medical testimony. BTW, the family and THEIR attorney never ONCE legally challenged that diagnosis.

Furthermore, there WAS a malpractice case. If her diagnosis were incorrect do you think they would have paid out over a million dollars?

18. I wasn't trying to impugn the value of the multiple diagnoses
I just wanted to know what they were based on.

17. Do you know how MRI's work?
They use massive magnetic forces to make images.
They need to be placed in rooms with 6 to 10 inches of lead shielding because they can attract metal from other rooms in the hospital/imaging facility.

Ms. Schiavo had electrode implants put into her brain a year or so after her cardiac event as part of some experimental therapy sought by her husband to stimulate the brain tissue. You cannot have an MRI scan with metal in your body; the magnets will rip it right out. (That's left out of most of the webpages accusing him of hiding something by not having an MRI done.) Thus, her brain pictures have been done by CAT Scans. EEG waves are a different matter and have shown her to have no electrical activity in her cerebral cortex.

13. Do you think any doctor would or could make a mistake in
Michael Schiavo's favor?

14. Apparently there have been many doctors
who all came to the same conclusion. There's nothing in her brain to matter (or think, feel, etc.)
