WYFF-TV preempts NBC Nightly News for local Schiavo special.
Understand, WYFF-TV 4 (NBC) is at the epicenter of Jesus-land: Greenville, SC. Greenville is home of Bob Jones University and the Fighting BoJos. Influence-wise, this might be ground-zero in this kind of endeavor. Serious religious insanity is not uncommon in these parts. I just cannot believe that this NBC affiliate is pandering so openly to the religious right. BTW: Not one word on Iraq tonight on their local report at 6pm.

2. I just realized something.
I have a dear cousin, the age my mother would be. She is the sweetest southern lady you would ever know but we have parted ways because of her fundamentalism and the fact that I responded to one of the Bush** is god mailings with some not too mice replies to everyone on her list. I just realized that she is in Greenville. I knew it but never put two and two together. Well damn, now I know why. Love Greenville though, the area is beautiful.

5. This is the problem with most of the red places!!
There is no choice but rightwing talk shows on the drive from the rural counties to the cities for work!!
This is what we have to combat. Southerners aren't "naturally" fundies or stupid or anything else. They have been brainwashed by Limbaugh, their local media and certain racist organizations.

7. You are correct.
We have nothing but RW radio here. It is horrible. 24/7 RW propaganda with some religion thrown in on Sundays.

3. the husband is a bushevik agent....
he's the only one stopping the feeding etc and thus creating the insane tension among the cud chewers....the family, the gov the entire evangelical nitwit crowd, and the msn/mediawhores almost all either demand she be saved or at most decry the power of 'liberalism'....all because one goof (who'll disappear with his bushinc payoff as soon as shiavo dies) hasn't been recognised for what he is...if it served bush's interest to keep her alive, does anyone think a judge would really defy them?
note: if the husband gave the busheviks custody, to do as they wished, it would BLOW AMERICA'S FUSE! so he won't....

6. Can't believe a station is pre-empting news on Iraq, Sumatra earthquake,
etc. for another nauseating evening beating their breasts over a foregone conclusion.

8. But then again, I flipped channels to ABC and CBS and saw no Iraq news.
Then I surfed LBN at DU and the only damn post mentioning Iraq in the headline had been locked! Look-it! It's all Schiavo, all the time. That is either because the spin-meisters (Rove and Co.) lost control on this one, or ... because this is the perfect Rovian red-herring covering some other nefarious acts. The timing on Schiavo is suspect (Easter) vis-a-vis the religious right. This has been ginning up for a long time, but the final timing is almost theatrical (read: Rovian). Old Joe Goebbels would be proud. Nothing like rank red herring that smells like Easter lamb roasted with a rosemary bouquet!

Go mine (verb) some real headlines my DU friends. Let Terri die.

11. OMG! Plano-girl! (sorry, Power-Girl)
But let me correct you. You live in Jesus-Football-Land. HS football on Friday. Jesus on Sunday. Baghdad on Monday.

I moved from Highland-Park a year ago next month. H-P High has a stadium that a lot of medium-sized colleges would love (like Odessa-Permian H-S's). In Texas, white football (or slightly mixed) is acceptable; solid black is not. Dallas-Carter was the biggest, blackest, most intimidating high-school sports team in history in 1988 (according to the film Friday Night Lights). Mean Mo-Fos!

I hope Carter HS is not a stereotype now. I don't really know because I am out of Texas. My guess is that they still are. My guess is that Marine recruiters lurk there, and at Permian High, for those un-injured warriors that don't make the cut at East Kansas Wesleyan or UCLA.
