Does anyone else like Chris Shays?
I know he is a Repub, but god dang, he is bashing his party and Bush more than most Democrats are. Just last week he bashed his party and Congress on the steroid hearing, now he is saying the nation and the republican party is turning into a theocracy. He is from the same stay as Joe Lieberman, but it seems he is more liberal and makes more sense for our side that Joe does nowadays.

Anyone else see this the same?

1. I respect him
but he's part of the old IKE Repub party.

He's an endangered species.

2. He seems at times to be in possession of his own faculties,
instead of hard-wired to the peabrain rattling in the chimp skull.
That doesn't mean I like him, but I will allow some grudging respect. :eyes:

3. He is probably the Republican House Rep. most in danger of losing
his seat and he knows it. He should switch parties or lose.

They target moderate Dems in red states. We need to target moderate Republicans in blue states - we need those seats.

5. He fits his district pretty well
The Republicans of Fairfield County, Conn., are Old School Republicans. Pro-choice, fiscally conservative, more social conscience than the right-wingnuts, believe private matters (including religion) should be kept private. They're what George H.W. Bush was before he sold his soul in order to become vice-president and later president.

4. I may not agree...
with every vote Shays has cast, but he's honorable.

If we support a 2 party system, Shays is a credit to his party.

Now... maybe he'll come over to the Dems? Thoughts?

6. He will not budge
unless the bad repukes come after him. They might run someone against him. Not enough family values. Or some other shitty, stupid thing.

7. Though I may disagree with some of his politics,
he is a true conservative, and I can respect that fully.

Plus, he isn't in lockstep with *, so that's a big plus.

8. He was lockstep with bushco on the War and larger issues
but he will stray on the social issues at times. He is hard to Gage. I use to like him more. Now with the war I'm not so sure.

9. So were most Dems.
Better the devil we know.

I'm more furious with dems that vote in lockstep with the gop in issues like war, bankruptcy reform etc.

10. I'd vote for Shays over Lieberman
But not over a real Dem. The left tends to like to glamorize Socially Moderate Repugs. You saw how that worked out with bush brown noser McCain.

13. Admittedly...
I'm just shocked that he strayed on the Schiavo matter.

And being in shock disqualifies my knee-jerk opinion.

You're right, I saw what happened with mccain. When he was brutally smeared in his bid for the nomination, I thought he'd put honor, his own, over politics. I was disappointed.

11. He appears to be half-way decent
...which is the biggest compliment I can make any politician.

I think we can all agree that being a Republican does not make one evil.

It is another thing to invite any Republican that disagrees with Bush on an issue or two to join the Democratic party. We have Clinton and Lieberman and that, in my humble opinion, is all the Republican muscle we can handle.

12. No
Not especially. I remember him defending Bush choosing Kissinger to head the 9/11 panel and for the most part he goes lock step on corporate issues.

And I hope we can take his seat in '06. I'm tired of Dems sitting back and thinking "Oh he's OK...he's a moderate Dem" so let's not do anything.

Him and Chafee. Time to go after northeast repukes - at the minimum give 'em an ultimatum - switch sides or be ready for a challenger.

15. I did email him with a thank you for his comments
on the Schaivo case. Thats about as far as I am willing to go until I see more from him. He does actually seem to have a conscience, and actually believes in the Constitution and seperation of church and state. I can't fault him for that.

16. Shay and Schiavo Legislation
I did the same thing. I saw this piece of legislation as an end-run around the constitution and the rule of law. I was furious at our Dems who did not speak up and stand up.

Devoting two years of your life to helping the unfortunate people of a developing country will provide you with more sense and a better world-view than the typical close-minded Repug...
