begin? I swear it is getting worse. Freedom means being force feed religion. Patriotism means destroying the constitution. Orwell was a better prophet than Daniel!

2. I think there have already been a few book burnings already...
Your right about Orwell, reminds me of one of my favorite Daily Show moments. In a story about the government pre-packaging fake news, Jon says the GOP is playing by the book and an picutre of 1984 pops into the window.

3. 1984 should

be REQUIRED reading in all high school senior year classes. If I was a teacher, and I can give you zillions of reasons why I am not, I would make them all read it twice. I would analyze it in context with what is happening today. I'd make them do a book report AND write a 5 page thesis on it. After that, I am pretty sure I would PROMPTLY be fired. I would do it or die trying. They need to be enlightened to the amazing similarities. Freshmen in college need it too. I am thinking about rereading it as we speak.

On edit: I would also get the smartest kid in the class to proofread anything I write. :P

8. Oddly enough, in my Utah high school,
the reading list for AP English included "1984" and "A Brave New World" as well as the usual, "The Mayor of Casterbridge", "Wuthering Heights, "Ethan Frome" and more Shakespeare than even I could stand. But in 3 years of Biology and Physiology, the word Evolution never passed an instructor's lips, not once.

4. One of the scariest and most prophetic parts of 1984. It is true right now

Oceania was at war with Eurasia now, but just four years ago, these two had formed an alliance against Eastasia. Winston remembered this clearly, but it made no difference what he or any other individual remembered, for the Party said that Eurasia had always been the Enemy and what the Party said was the Truth. This, thought Winston, was the most frightening aspect of the party regime-that it could obliterate memory, turn lies into Truth and alter the Past. The Party slogan was “Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present controls the past.” This was where “doublethink” came into play, minds were trained to hold contradictory positions simultaneously and unquestioningly- for example you had to believe at one and the same time that Democracy was impossible and that the Party was the guardian of democracy. Winston could remember a time when the Party did not rule, when Big Brother had not become all-powerful; but according to the Party they had always existed and this lie was repeated ad infinitum until it “became” the truth. This, Winston thought was a far more terrible weapon in the hands of the Party than torture or execution.

9. A tip... Read "Don't Think of an Elephant" by G. Lakoff.
It won't make the Radical RW any less infuriating, but at least they're less baffling.
