Thank you from Wes Clark & SecuringAmerica.com
Received by email

Dear Friend,

Last week, we officially launched the new WesPAC and our new website at SecuringAmerica.com. Frankly, I've been overwhelmed by the response we've received.

I can't thank you enough for your support -- the hundreds of thousands of visitors we've seen at SecuringAmerica.com, the hundreds of responses on WesBlog, the lively discussion at the Clark Community Network, and so much more.

In particular, I thank the thousands of you who have already joined me in demanding the FCC end its de facto censorship of the public airwaves.

And we're just getting started. In the coming weeks and months, WesPAC is going to be a forceful advocate for new, wiser approaches to foreign, economic, and social policy that will help secure America's future for generations to come.

But I need your help to do it.

Please support WesPAC as we embark together on this new, vital mission -- contribute today!

With your help, WesPAC will lead the charge on a wide range of critical national issues -- from winning the war on terrorism and rebuilding alliances around the world to protecting civil liberties, fixing health care, improving education, and helping out the least fortunate among us here at home.

Because America's future doesn't depend solely on national security, as critical as that is. America's future also relies on economic security, retirement security, educational security, and health security, as well as the security and protection of our Constitution.

That's what WesPAC is about -- and that's the mission I'm asking you to join.

Join me as we work together to secure America's future -– contribute to WesPAC today!

Your financial support will provide WesPAC with the resources we need to tackle these big problems -- to identify issues, develop potential solutions, and do all of this as a team -- all of us together.

Your financial support will help WesPAC spread the word and lobby for change, challenging decision-makers to confront these issues head-on and work together with us to implement solutions.

Your financial support will help WesPAC build our grassroots network of support, so we can more effectively get our message out and more rapidly take action.

And your financial support will help WesPAC support those Democratic candidates who share our views -- contributing money and ideas to their campaigns as they work with us to secure America's future.

All of this is possible -- and it all starts with you.

Support WesPAC today!

The challenges ahead are significant, and the stakes couldn't be higher. By working together and dedicating ourselves to this critical mission, I know we will succeed.

With great appreciation,

Wes Clark

2. Liberals need a four-star general in their ranks telling it like it is!!!
I am a Democratic activist today because of Wes Clark. I wouldn't be interested if he weren't in the arena.

I donate every month at the beginning of the pay cycle. This is the second time this month and I feel good. :smoke:

7. Me, too.
Because the corporate media dismissed him as a one-trick pony (foreign policy), many people did not get to read his domestic agenda postion papers, which were succinct and offered good solutions for everyday people.
I'm glad he's getting the message out that foreign policy, while important, isn't the only solution and that he, as a economist, can offer solutions to social/economic/domestic issues, too.

5. He gets it!
Americans today are more insecure than I've ever seen in my lifetime.

Whether they're afraid of terrorism, or afraid of losing their job. Will they keep their healthcare, or are they 1 illness away from disaster? Will our children get the education they need to succeed, or will we all have to settle for less?

And will we have allies to work with us as we move forward, in these uncertain times? Will we follow a path to a peaceful world, or will we give in to fear?

8. "Security" can be a powerful new meme for the Democratic Party.
Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 07:53 PM by Clarkie1
"Because America's future doesn't depend solely on national security, as critical as that is. America's future also relies on economic security, retirement security, educational security, and health security, as well as the security and protection of our Constitution."

If we conciously frame all these issues in terms of security, we can frame the Republicans as the party of insecurity, and portray them as a risk to the very foundations of our democracy (which of course they are).

12. Best news I've heard in a long time!!
I feel like I can breathe again! I've felt so "unanchored" and aimless since Nov. 2, trying to deal with the daily blows from the ruthless Regime by writing letters, emails, signing petitions, etc. Flip-flopping between feeing useful and powerful to feeling helpless and hopeless sometimes all in one day!

To have General Clark out front leading our battle gives me renewed hope and inspiration and I am so stoked I can't even tell you!!!

13. And to think the other day his site was assessed as FP only.
"WesPAC is going to be a forceful advocate for new, wiser approaches to foreign, economic, and social policy that will help secure America's future for generations to come."
Seems like he is looking at the whole picture. No surprise there.

20. He has always seen the whole picture
And the nimrods who say otherwise are just showing their ignorance. Up to us to educate 'em, them what'll listen.

From the WesPAC mission statement:
"Further, recognizing that America’s national security is predicated on a strong economy, WesPAC will advocate holistic economic strategies in order to advance our national security objectives."

I did a little googling around to figure out what "holistic economic strategies" might mean (unlike Clark, I'm no master of economic theory). Turns out it's the whole enchilada. Education, health care, environmental protection, a global perspective, and more. But at least as important, I think, it's about changing the yardsticks by which we measure economic strength. It's ain't the GDP or the stock market or other tangible instruments, or at least not solely, but rather the human values that must be used to evaluate whether there's quality of life. And it's not about a quarterly bottom line as much as answering what type of world do we want our grandchildren to live in.

I'm reminded of the General's stump speech on family values, about how you can't say you support family values if you're not creating jobs, providing health care, keeping air and water clean, or if you are trying to separate people with "right" values from those with the "wrong" ones. (I know I've botched that badly, but anyone who's heard it will remember.)

The point is, Clark sees these things on so many different levels at once, and how interconnected they all are. People try to put him in a box and label it "foreign policy" or "military officer" but they either just aren't paying attention, or they're so limited in their own thought capacity that it's all gone over their heads.

24. Great post Jai.
I remember that stump speech. Wes Clark can do so much for us, if only we can get people to open their, ears, eyes and minds. I guess that is what we need to try to do.

17. Reading the responses to his blog, I noticed
that he seems to make comments. With that in mind, I'm promised myself to use that space. I have a million things that I want to ask him.

I encourage everyone to go to Ice's video site and download the round table at the Library of Congress with Wes. If you can only find time and room from one clip, please let it be #5. That segment includes a question about the limitations of NATO, and Clark offers an answer that completely and absolutely blew me away.

Yes, yes, I know I've watched hours of Clark which is why I am spoiled when it comes to accepting the typical political fodder that so often passes for dialog. But Clark's answer has animation, down-home little comments, juxtaposed with the 4 syllable precision language that just tumbles from his brain to the listeners ear. He finished with a tour of "Great Game" history, pronouncing it as out modded and needing a good turning on its head. Maybe it has been too long between extended Clark appearances, as opposed to the snippets with which I've had to "make do" when he tours the rabid talking heads shows; but this was special.

And as the screen fades to black, I'm left with two thoughts: the first may seem bitter, but I no longer care: that if the anti-Clark contingent would take a fraction of the time to listen to this one clip rather than type out commentary that bares no relationship to the man on that tape, they too would "get it." They may chose to continue to support their "favorite" but they could free themselves of useless baggage. The more important thought that strikes my mind the hardest is what is junior doing in the White House while this man is out here. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad his with us, but I think if we lived in a healthy democracy, he'd be leading us.

Please watch that tape.

21. Just watched it for first time.
I wish everyone would watch part #5 from about 7:45 seconds into tape...NATO question leads to Clark's defintion of leadership in the 21st century. It's incredibly insightful.

Turns "we have no permananent friends only permanent interests" old 19th century balance of power politics upside-down."

"That's 19th century balance of power politics. In an interdependent world, we can't live that way. We must turn that axiom upside down. In the United States and the world today we have permanent friends and we must make our interests converge. That's the task of leadership." -Wes Clark.

The segment in quotes begins about 7:45 seconds into video.

22. Specific instructions!
Go... go... go... to the place that Clark I describes. You'll never regret it.

Mr Z watched part 5 last night, and he too became mesmerized. The audience breaking into applause was very telling. I may watch the clip again before the day is out.

Thanks for transcribing that quote, I will add to my Wesquotes file: a collection of profound statements that shed light in these dark ages.

23. THAT'S the Wes Clark we all know!
Thoughtful. Insightful. Clear.

We keep believing in his ability to bring strength back to the Democratic party (and not just on FP and NS) because he understands (and can explain) complex systems to everyone.
