WTF was Jeb's (schiavo) press conference all about?
Edited on Wed Mar-23-05 03:33 PM by Inland
What's this "Task force"? Is he saying there is going to be new legislation? What the heck on? What was he TALKING about?

He speaks that the prayers for Terri are working. Then someone asks him if the state is going to take "protective custody" of Schiavo and he has no idea what to say. He didn't say anything except bring up a mayo clinic doc who has a different opinion. So? What now?

Teh fundies want him to send in the state troopers, nothing less.

1. Earlier today GWB* said something about backing off the issue,
they've done all they can.

Now, Jeb is hollerin' the loudest.

Switch. Take the heat off the federal government for the invasion into a private medical decision?

4. W's backing off the issue, having been pilloried
for undermining federalism. Quietly. The fundies are never going to forgive him for not sending in the troops, so he hopes Jeb and the courts will take the heat.

Jeb at least is in the popular level of government, so the question becomes: why didn't he just propose legislation that says you can't remove a feeding tube? And the answer is: BECAUSE NOBODY WOULD VOTE FOR IT. The repug elites are trying to find a way that they can "save terri" and placate the fundies without requiring states and hospitals and families to maintain hundreds if not thousands of PVS persons against their wills.

5. I'm glad Idiot's advisers are telling him to back off
Issuing an EO to countermand the courts would have been the same as declaring the courts irrelevant. It would have been an official start to the executive dictatorship. That may be what is happening in most cases, but appearances are everything.

Most of the repugs wouldn't support the appearance such an EO would present.

7. But I think the fundies are demanding it
They don't give a shit about courts, and they know that in a whole bunch of circumstances, neither does Bush.

If Bush can take Jose Padilla and hold him forever without bringing him before a judge, which Bush still says he can do, why can't he "save Terri"?

If Bush can ignore statutes and treaties that forbid torture, why can't he "save Terri"?

It isn't legality that's stopping him, but politics--he would rather not go against the majority. The fundies will never forgive him for that.

2. I wouldn't put it past him or chimpy to try to send in troopers
or the National Guard. And that really would provoke a huge constitutional crisis - maybe the end of the BFEE?? One can only hope.

Has the MSM gone mad? 70% of the people think the government should take a hike and MSM doesn't have the balls to put a laugh track on any of these repukes.

6. Fine...keep digging that hole deeper and deeper......
Face it,most Republicans that aren't nut case religious freaks are totally against this, they've said as much on radio and in polls.

This shit scares normal thinking citizens because it hits so close to home for all of us--unless you can figure out a way to never die.

9. Randall Terry is involved...a madman, capable of anything...
I anticipate something drastic. Let's just hope that this is the Fundies' Waterloo..and that Terri finally gets peace.
