Dean supporters yell "recount!" after Dean loss to Clark is CA strawpoll
Last Saturday evening, the California Young Democrats conducted a straw poll, saying it was mainly for entertainment and not an official recommendation of the Young Democratic Caucus. The big news was that, of 200 votes cast, Dennis Kucinich, the liberal former congressman who is supposedly popular in this area, received one vote. Richard Gephardt received two and Al Sharpton scored seven, as did John Edwards. John Kerry, winner of the Iowa Caucus, received 16 votes, good for fourth. The big winner? Wesley Clark, with 69 votes, much to the chagrin of Howard Dean supporters, who yelled, "Recount," after their candidate was announced a distant second with 53 votes. "This is a fun straw poll," Alex De Ocampo, president of the young Dems, told caucus members. "Do not get angry. It will be all right."

2. No, just "second"...Kerry was a distant third
As much as you like to spin it, Dean still has a LOT of support.

6. we know your opinion
and I wasn't talking about your opinion

The writer of the article (haven't checked on their bona fides) used the term "distant" to denote Dean's placement in the final numbers. You don't think that's biased? when Dean's placement was at 36% of the total votes cast (only 144 by the way) And since only ONE vote went to Kucinich, I wonder about this little "club"

10. I think there must be something wrong with their little club
if they think Dennis is a "former" Congressman.

12. Ah! The writer of the article said that, nobody in their club did.
You'll have to find another way to discredit them.

17. Amazing that ANYONE at DU would desire to discredit a
Democratic youth organization. With all the news about how young folks are becoming more conservative and lining up for the Republican party, you would think people here would be glad to see activism among young democrats, even IF it isn't their candidate isn't the favorite guy.

5. LOL- Clark reduced to relying on straw polls for "momentum"
This is sad. Clark is yesterday's news. An empty suit general with zero political experience to draw on trying to lead the nation. I'm sure his campaign got a huge boost from this irrelevant straw poll of 200 people!

7. Bunch much?
I cannot believe already people are getting their panties all in a wad over 100 kids playing primary.

It's a light hearted article. Kind of like Peanuts. Humor. You know?

It's a straw poll - among kids - less than a fraction of a percent of Californians - the state that elected Aaaahnold - hello? Reason much?
