A Message From Wes Clark
A Message from Wes Clark
March 16, 2005

Dear Loyal Supporter,

It's been several months since I last wrote to you. During that time, I have been working hard to regroup after the November elections and strengthen WesPAC for the challenges ahead.

Today I am pleased to announce the launch of the new WesPAC website!

You can find the new WesPAC website at our new URL -- SecuringAmerica.com. Our goal has been to design and develop a site that makes it easy for you to stay connected to the national and economic security issues that we know are so important.

I am committed to staying at the forefront of the national debate, and our new website will be more important than ever before. Your involvement is mission-critical because only by working together can we get our message out.

Take a look at our new website -- visit www.SecuringAmerica.com today!

Like you, I am involved in this great national conversation because the lives of our children and their children will forever be affected by the decisions we make over the next ten years. We owe it to them and to those who came before us to leave the world a better place.

It's up to us. Let's get to work.

America today is at a crossroads. Both at home and abroad, our security and values are being challenged. We must act now.

The evolving global economy is making it harder for America to maintain its economic preeminence in the world, threatening Americans' ability to compete for the best jobs. The threats to our physical safety and national security are greater now than they have been during any period since the end of the Second World War. We need a strategy and a vision for America that recognizes our place in the world.

Poverty, ignorance and desperation are feeding the wellspring of hatred against America and the values for which we stand. Many people perceive Americans as rich, arrogant, and uncaring. Unfortunately, this Administration has done more to feed that stereotype than to dispel it.

As a nation, we must show the world the formula that will lift them from oppression and prevent needless violence. It's an American formula. It's the formula of freedom, opportunity, and equality.

Read more about my thoughts on this new vision for America at SecuringAmerica.com.

Here at home, we need to prepare ourselves for the fact that very soon, China and India will overtake us as the world's largest integrated economy. That means we need schools that prepare our young people to remain competitive for the best jobs. We need a health care system that stops driving employers away and bankrupting small businesses. We need a government that works for the common good and exercises common sense.

In the coming days and weeks, I will be writing to you frequently with specific actions you can take to help WesPAC advance our new vision for America. I'm really looking forward to continuing this journey with you -- nothing is more important to the future of our country.

In the meantime, I hope you'll spend some time visiting our new website at www.SecuringAmerica.com and preparing for the exciting work ahead.

Sincerely,

Wes Clark

I think he's great as well as Dean, Kerry, Edwards. All of our leaders are awesome. I'm glad his website is back up and running!

3. I better go and sign up
and contribute.

I think that out of all the Dems, I trust him more with being able to advance the cause of winning us some elections by framing a different message about Dems and defense. I don't think most of the others even have a remote clue as to what to do.

Biden can eat my ass. His only clue is a mirror!

4. Covering all of the topics:
Thanks for posting this! I'm very glad to see that WesPAC is broadening its mission.

China especially is going to in Clark's words: eat our economic lunch. He is very worried about this.

A quick Clark story from SC... it seems that shortly before an event, Clark's aids discovered a hole in one his shoes. Volunteers quickly made a run to the local mall, and brought back a pair of presentable new ones. Clark took a look at them, and finding out that they were "made in China" refused to put them on.

Maybe because I'm living in a rural area that has lost every one of its shoe shops, this story always makes me proud to support that man's voice. He walks the walk--even with a hole in his shoe.

5. From the Seattle Post-Intelligencer:
Clark plans to stay at forefront of debate

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON -- Wesley Clark told supporters Wednesday that he's launched a redesigned Web site for his political action committee and plans to "stay at the forefront of the national debate."

The retired four-star general was one of several Democrats who ran for president in 2004. He abandoned the race in early February of that year after two third-place finishes in Southern states.

"I have been working hard to regroup after the November elections," Clark wrote in an e-mail to supporters, adding that he wants to strengthen WesPAC, his political action committee, "for the challenges ahead."

7. "Remarks On Twenty Year Vision For America"
An excerpt:
(As prepared for delivery)
Manchester, NH
January 10, 2004:

“Today, vast segments of the developing world's population are struggling, desperate for America's engagement, understanding and assistance. Right now, more than half the world's population is struggling to survive on less than $2 a day, and nearly 1 billion live in chronic hunger. More than one billion of the world's adults cannot read, three-quarters of them women. And half the children in the poorest countries are not in school. Malaria, tuberculosis and diarrhea alone kill 8 million people a year under the age of 15. And already in South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe, half of all the 15-year-olds are expected to die of AIDS. We cannot - we must not - allow this to go on.

But that's just what we're doing. For too long now, America has failed to live up to its awesome responsibilities on the world stage. We are the richest nation in education, health care, science, and bottom line dollar wealth. Yet, more often than not, we turn a blind eye to developing nations around the world, those which desperately need our help. More often than not we put the bottom line first.

America's wealth, strength, and character provides us with great power -- but they also confer great obligations...

...We'll still need our armed forces and we'll take every necessary action to make America safe - but we'll gain that safety not by force of arms, but by who we are and what we represent. For we should be an America not puffed up by pride in our own power, but rather an America humbled by the recognition of our common humanity. We must make sure that globalization helps people around the world, raising living standards and improving the environment everywhere - rather than leading a race to the bottom. Working together, we can build a world in which the rule of law - not the rule of force - governs relations between states. A world in which leaders respect the rights of their people, and nations seek peace, not destruction or domination. And neither we nor anyone else should live in fear ever again."

Wesley Clark

An excerpt:
General Wesley K. Clark
Atlantic Charter: The Power of Our Alliances

Netherlands Institute For International Relations
The Hague
December 15, 2003

"When we use the power of international law and diplomacy, we can achieve decisive results, even without decisive force.
I believe that, even in this age, we can fight and win wars through collective action. I believe alliances are indispensable, not inconvenient. And I prefer coalitions of the committed rather than coalitions of convenience. I would rather have capable European forces with a say in making decisions, than to have Tonga and the Marshall Islands with no strings attached.

But even more importantly, I believe that if America works with its allies, it can engage in diplomacy, developmental assistance, and a full array of legal actions to deal with crises before they erupt into war, and to ameliorate the conditions that might lead to those crises in the first place...

..The United States needs to work with its NATO allies on a political strategy to promote reform, human rights, and the rule of law in the greater Middle East.

So long as people there have no peaceful outlets for expressing dissent, they will seek violent outlets. So long as children in many parts of this region are educated in schools that preach hate, they will continue to grow into adults who practice hate. We will not succeed in transforming the Middle East by suggesting that regimes will be changed through military force. A better model is offered by the joint approach Europe and America took after the Cold War to transform Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Together, we successfully promoted stability, security, economic reform and democratic progress throughout that region.

We offered these states the opportunity to work with and participate in Atlantic and European institutions. They were encouraged to settle historic disputes, integrate their economies and adopt open political systems. Our emphasis was upon carrots not sticks, inclusion not exclusion, assistance and encouragement not sanctions and coercion"

Wesley Clark

We need leadership with an enlightened sense of our nation's self interest. We need Democrats who are comfortable addressing the problems of the world, but who understand the limits of power. I am reassured to know that Wes Clark will continue to be heard from.

9. Those are very sobering statistics.
Clark is right: as the richest nation on Earth we do have obligations, and we ignore those obligations at our own peril.

My support for Clark is based not only on a sense of duty to my country, but also out of a sense of that obligation.

The election of Clark in 08' would send a powerful message around the globe about American values, and America and the world would benefit.

Wesley Clark Says He Plans to 'Stay at Forefront' of National Debate and Revamps His Web Site

The Associated Press
Mar. 16, 2005 - Wesley Clark told supporters Wednesday that he's launched a redesigned Web site for his political action committee and plans to "stay at the forefront of the national debate."
The retired four-star general was one of several Democrats who ran for president in 2004. He abandoned the race in early February of that year after two third-place finishes in Southern states.
>>snip
Clark, 60, entered the presidential race in September 2003 and quickly rose to the top of polls of Democrats and others interested in voting for an alternative to Bush. He skipped the Iowa caucuses, a move some considered a mistake.

Clark relied heavily on experience gained from 34 years in military service, which included serving as supreme allied commander of NATO.

13. WesBlog...well duh?
I've been on and off the computer tonight and hadn't realized until a few minutes ago that you can now comment on the post that Wes has left on his blog. And what a post... includes a trip down economics 101.

I didn't post... ya know how shy I am. :-)

Actually, I didn't post because I got caught up in reading the messages that people have left for him. Take some time--read them-- there are many heartfelt words on that blog.

but they're not very poitical.

I'm going to send them links to Wes's new site. They're looking for more than they've been offerred thus far, by politics as usual.

He provides more than being anti-Bush...he provides hope.

he's a man of integrity and honor. He's smart and compassionate. And, despite the many posts doubting this, he is as pacifist as I've ever been (and I've been there, done that... starting with Vietnam and on.)

I reiterate: Wes Clark was born to be President.

30. I want General Wes Clark for my President!
He's already been Commander in Chief of the Southern Command and of Europe and Supreme Allied Commander. Some might try to say that he needs needs legislative experience....but it's executive experience that is the "should be" pre-requisite for the presidency. That's why Senators don't make it often as Presidents....they lack executive experience.

Additional Pre-requisite for the presidency in 2008 should be the following, in which Clark has ample experience:

Intelligence = 1st in West Point Class; Rhode Scholar; written two best selling books and a myriad of op eds(first book currently used as a teaching tool at the Carnegy Council of Ethics and International Affairs.)
http://www.carnegiecouncil.org/viewMedia.php/prmTemplateID/2/prmID/1043
http://www.publicaffairsbooks.com/publicaffairsbooks-cgi-bin/display?book=1586482181&cover=pb
http://www.thinkingpeace.com/Lib/lib028.html

Empathy for the less fortunate = self made man who made not more than $50,000 most of his life and has lived in real trailers/$90,000 as a 4 Star General; philosophy degree from Oxford; wounded to near death in Vietnam; called for action against genocide in Rwanda and Kosovo; wrote Army amicus brief for U of Michigan Affirmative Action case to the Supreme Court; called attention to Darfur; currently on board of the International Crisis Group. http://www.icg.org/home/index.cfm?id=3247&l=1

Economic experience = Masters in Economics from Oxford/White House Fellows in the Budget office. Is a licensed Investment Banker; Proposed the best progressive tax reform plan during the primaries. http://www.pahrumpvalleytimes.com/2004/02/18/opinion/myers.html

National Security experience = Clark is considered an expert in the field as he was in charge of National Security in Europe and Latin America. Currently works for Witt and Associates--A Homeland Security company http://www.homelanddefensestocks.com/Companies/HomelandDefense/News_Articles/Public_Safety.asp

Foreign Policy Experience = Negotiated Dayton Peace Accords in 1995; Negotiated with dictators and stuck his finger in their face; testified before Senate and the House against going to Iraq; Testified at the Hague against Milosovich. Has been knighted in England, decorated in France and received Medal of Freedom from Prez Clinton, apart from numerous medals from various countries, including the U.S.

Political campaigning Experience = Ran for the Democratic nomination for the presidency in 2004. Placed 3rd in NH after 1st and 2nd place New Englanders; was the only candidate apart from the eventual nominee to win a state that was not his home state; placed 2nd (without media coverage) in New Mexico, Arizona and North Dakota. Bowed out gracefully when it was clear that Kerry would be the nominee; Raised the most money after Howard Dean up to January of '04 (and raised the most in January '04) although was only in the race for 4 months (compared to 18 months for others); Put together a credible campaign in just a few months with leftover staffing; Had the biggest Grassroot movement after Howard Dean.

Speaking abilities = Debating Team at West Point; speaking fees of $30,000 upon retirement; CNN commentator during the onset of the Iraq War; spoke one of the best speeches during the Democratic Convention; surrogate at large for John Kerry during the 2004 Prez campaign (meme that he's not "ready for primetime" made up by the corporate media who, to protect their various interests, did not want Clark as the nominee to go against Bush).

Independent & courage = was his party affiliation until he became a Democrat. Cannot be described as highly partisan, but stands for Democratic ideals stronger than most Democratic politicians. Courage in the face of battle in Vietnam and was rewarded with Bronze, Silvers and Purple Hearts for non-controversial but couragous actions. Was retired early for standing up for principles. Privately Encouraged both O'neal, Clarke and S. Hersch to expose the Bush Administration.

Representative of Faith, Values, patriotism and religiousity= Married to the same woman for 36 years. Is 1/2 Jewish, raised a southern baptist, converted to catholism. Southern Values are his forte. Served his country for 34 years. Firmly believes in the separation of Church and State.

Hails from a Red State = Arkansas -- Is a real progressive, but perceived as a moderate by the general voting public.

Gravitas = Sole Democrat 4 Star General who won the last war America fought (prior to Iraq) without losing a single American. Most decorated officer since Eisenhower. Perceived as a "Strong" leader by the masses.

NOT a Senator or a Washington insider but understands Washington= Wes Clark

Viable Grassroots = Clarkies are everywhere and really did make a difference in his last campaign. Blog still gets over 300-500 comments per day.

Telegeniality = Face it--The guy looks great!

Another poster alerted me to some other "should have" presidential Qualities that Clark has:

Vision and Insight= Of all the primary candidates, Wes Clark had the most thought-out and complete vision of his ideas for America, he wasn't just talking about how he would beat Bush out of the White House but about his 100 Year Vision for America. Probably one of the most far-reaching themes of any campaign since JFK.

and Don't forget these qualities as well:
Leadership
Scientifically inclined
Sense of Humor
Calm under pressure
Athletic
and last but certainly not least------->Honesty

Any candidate missing any of these ingredients should'nt even be considered...

that's my take!
