This seems to be floating under the radar. One of the two new Republicans who just got caught up in the DeLay scandal is the newly elected Senator from Louisiana, David Vitter.

Wonder what would happen if Vitter went down. He'd have to resign from the Senate (maybe) and then we'd get another shot at getting back another Democrat to take his place. Wishful thinking, I know, but it sure would be nice to kill 2 birds with one stone (ie, DeLay and the new Senator).

1. One problem with the Vitter scenario
Genreally speaking, Louisianans don't really have a problem with crooked politicians. Just ask the people who voted for Edwin Edwards.

2. Edwin Edwards was a great man. He stopped the first wave of
fascism to hit since Jos. McCarthy. Namely, David Duke's bid for Governor of LA. This race inspired the famous quotation from Edwards: "They'd have to find me in bed with a dead girl or a live boy to lose this election." (or something very close to that). He was chastened when the returns came in and Duke, a Klansman, got almost 40% of the vote. I remember seeing Edward's victory speech, quite an amazing statement, saying he'd stopped the fascism in LA but it would come on hard elsewhere. I've always remembered that speech and his look of horror.

I say FREE EDWIN EDWARDS. As for the Vitter critter, screw him. You're right, Louisianans don't hold a little graft against a fella but they know a rat Republican when he's exposed. Adios Vitter (j'espere).

3. The Delay scandals may ensnare a lot of people,
and I certainly hope they do. Dobson and Reed were recipients of dirty Delay money skimmed from one of the casino tribes when they were trying to keep another tribe from opening a casino. The whole thing just gets more interconnected and Byzantine every day.

I think when the Roach finally gets squashed, he's going to take a whole lot of people with him.

Shoot, there may even be a Guckert connection, the way this is shaping up.
