Why the hell is Bush willing to work with Hezbollah?
Is there any pundit or politican calling him out on this? Bill Maher criticized him for it last Friday, but I can't find anybody else saying anything about it. How in the hell can he let these terrorists have political power and input, while on the other hand he says he is fighting the terrorists like Al Quedea? I am pissed about this!

1. Because you have to deal with the world that is
Not the world as you would have it. Like it or not, Hezbollah is a major player in Lebanon, and any plan for the future that doesn't include them is doomed to failure.

5. So you are saying we have to negotiate with the terrorists?
I don't buy that.

18. So what's your solution?
Peace requires everybody's participation, not just those you approve of. And I don't think that there's any group in that part of the world that doesn't have some blood on its hands.

2. Because Bush is a liar
They're only terrorists until he thinks he can get a political advantage from them.

Cracked me up in a bizarre way ... when * was interviewed in Ireland (that controversial interview), he referred (I kid you not!) to a democracy in Pakistan. Damn! I can't believe that we have "this man" as our President. Shameful :(

On edit: Here's his exact words:

snip

THE PRESIDENT: Well, I think, first of all, you've got a democracy in Turkey. And you've got a democracy emerging in Afghanistan. You've got a democracy in Pakistan. In other words --

Q But shouldn't that be on the top of the list --

THE PRESIDENT: Please. Please. Please, for a minute, okay. It'll be better if you let me finish my answers, and then you can follow up, if you don't mind.

What I'm telling you is democracy can emerge at the same time that a democracy can emerge in the Palestinian state. I'm the first American President to have called for the establishment of a Palestinian state, the first one to do so. Because I believe it is in the Palestinian people's interest; I believe it's in Israel's interest. And, yes, we're working. But we can do more than, you know, one thing at a time. And we are working on the road map with the Quartet, to advance the process down the road.

/snip

Our President is such an embarrassment that I cringe whenever he speaks overseas. Sometimes I say a little prayer to myself, "Oh please help * not to say anything overtly stupid?" :(

3. Has any pundit or politican called Bush out on anything? Anything at all?
Bush can say anything and do anything and corporate media will make excuses for it all.

"Bring it On" brought death to our soldiers but our pundits and politicos cheered Bush on.

4. Pragmatism
Hezbollah has both a political wing and a paramilitary wing. They currently hold 11 seats in the parliament and are likely to grow. It's the same reason Israel will end up dealing with Hamas.

WASHINGTON - The House urged the European Union on Monday to classify the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.

The House voted 380-3 on a resolution that pressed the Europeans to recognize Hezbollah "as a threat to international security." Five members voted "present."

Hezbollah has supported suicide attacks in Israel and was blamed for the October 1983 bombing of U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, which killed 241 American servicemen.

The resolution's main sponsor, Republican Rep. Jim Saxton, R-N.J., asked "how can anyone, European or American, deny the simple fact that the ideological fabric of Hezbollah is based on the ideals of radical Islam, and the central purpose of the organization is to kill innocent human beings?"

In Lebanon, Hezbollah is seen as a legitimate and popular political force, a party that operates schools and clinics. Its members have been elected to Parliament.

European nations have been divided about whether Hezbollah should be designated a terrorist group, as the State Department does. Some European diplomats say any policy change they might make regarding Hezbollah could affect the political balance in Lebanon at a sensitive time. International and domestic pressure has been building for Syria, the dominant power in Lebanon, to remove its troops and intelligence agents from the country.

Rep. Tom Lantos, D-Calif., top Democrat on the House International Relations Committee, said by refusing to put Hezbollah on the terrorist list, "the European Union calls into question its own appropriateness in serving on the Quartet" working to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The Quartet comprises the European

Unbelievable. There is no way I can support his. This is like saying Al Quedea should have a say in Afghanistan or condoning Reagan aiding the Iranians or Saddam Hussien. I am sorry, but I am not willing to work with people who are filled with hate the way the Republicans do. I will stick to my principles.

Union, the United Nations, the United States and Russia.

11. What DO you know now?
FYI, Gore Sr. was not a favorite of many southern democrats because they considered him too LIBERAL. And Byrd has since renounced his KKK past, and has redeemed himself quite a few times lately by speaking out boldly against the Reichwing.

In fact, the only people who enjoy trying to discredit Byrd by bringing up this part of his past are rightwingers...

Just sayin'...

8. The people want them there...they don't see them as terrorist.
Actually, the only reason most Americans think they are terrorists is because we have been told they are. The people over there see them as the protector of the faith and land. I'm glad someone told Bush he couldn't just go against the people of a country no his own for a change. If he wants relations with that country, it must be with respect for their wishes and the people want them.
