I got a letter from James Carville today.........and it said
"Only the senate Democrats - can stop RIGHT WING NUT JOBS from being named to the Supreme Court....."

The letter is a fiesty solicitation to give money to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee fund, a fund which is alleged to be spent getting Democrats elected to the Senate.

Included is a nice card showing which senators of both parties are up for election next year.

And wait! That's NOT all! I also got these FREE return address lables included saying "Protect the Court", complete with the DSCC logo and your return address too! No ginsu knives tho :-(

Other quotes from the letter:

"..stop the Administration's half baked plans to privatize social security - and destroy this vital safety net for seniors."
"Back home in Louisiana, "red tide" is a parasite you get from eating seafood that makes you sick to your stomach. The only difference between that and the Republican "red tide" is that they skipped the seafood!"

I like the language, but I only give $$ to the candidate so I know where it is going (surrrrrrrrrrre....).

1. The senate Democrats confirmed a known liar and incompetent corporate hack
as Secretary of State. They confirmed a known advocate of torture as Attorney General. Carville says they'll instantly grow a spine once the judicial nominees start flowing?

I'll believe it when I see it.

2. When are the Democrats planning on starting all this? Have't seen
much opposition in 25 years now. If they oppose much more, the country will be non-existant

3. I got that yesterday and tossed it
It's going to take an awful lot for me to support the DSCC again. What I have seen so far has not impressed me.

4. The DSCC is important
The DSCC is very important for the same reason the DCCC is important. The greatest obstacle to putting up the strongest possible candidate in every GOP stronghold is limited money. Good candidates don't want to be martyrs, and often hold good current jobs.

To overcome this risk aversion, they need to be assured that a credible amount of $ will be available to support their campaign.

The DSCC is the entity best positioned to do that in a serious way -- it's very difficult for small donors to transmit their willingness to, say, support a challenge to Max Burns, although "pledge sites" would be one way to accomplish that goal.

Additionally, while Corzine worked hard and did a good job under difficult circumstances (i.e., a national tide going against the Dems in the Presidential election), it is worth noting that Schumer is a famously savvy and hardheaded pol. The DSCC, DCCC, and DGA all have top flight pols in charge with Schumer, Emanuel, and Richardson, one of the reasons that I am optimistic about 2006.

5. Very poor timing,Carville, to send out week Dems caved on bankruptcy bill
If Democrats cannot stand up for economic justice, they ought to hang their heads in shame. Let them show they can stand up when it counts, and the contributions will begin to flow in.
