1. earlier Byrd said he was wrong about joining the kkk and that reflection,
time, and experince changed his mind. He said people bring it up but he said he has apoligized and does not know what else he can do.

He also said he was ashamed of the Senate-that great deliberate body--for not taking a stand, for not debating the Iraq war and instead we just gave this President the war--to do what he wants with our military.

2. Byrd said he wants the Dems to put up someone who tells the truth
for the President--someone who is candid.

3. Byrd says he wants the Dems to put someone who tells the truth up
as a candidate for the next president. He also said Bush has been wrong about many things.

5. I do not think he was thinking of past candidates--more like comparing
our current president--as not being candid. He was not referring to kerry.

7. Kerry didn't really lie, but
He didn't tell the whole truth either. I think he was afraid of alienating his base and seeming impolite.

I wanted him to speak about the degradation of civil rights, Lying to get into war, the economy. He pussy-footed around the issues and that's not the way to beat an incumbent.

11. First you assume that I'm a Dem.
I'm neither Dem or Republican, really. I am registered Dem so I have a vote in the primaries, it makes me feel better.

Kerry wasn't my first pick for the opposition candidate, but, by the time the primary rolled around here he was a shoe in. Maybe we need a national primary voted on one day?

Before the election I wrote a letter to him begging him to speak to justice and inequity to differentiate himself from W clearly and strongly. I didn't expect it to change anything, but, I tried and felt better about it.

Even so I still believe that he was elected. The shrub was installed. But that matters not right now.

My allegiance is to ideas, not people, or political parties.

Peace,
-Hoot

8. And was this before or after he voted for the Bankruptsy Reform Bill?
Maybe he'd light to shed a little "truth"on his reasons for voting"aye"?

6. I read Byrd's book Losing America yesterday
He referred to Bush as "ineptitude supreme", and said that he had never met with a president who was so obviously ignorant about everything related to the government.

12. Did he talk about why he voted for the bankruptcy bill?
His vote came as a big surprise to me, I'd love to know his rationale.
