Dean: "I lead with my heart and not my head."
What is wrong with leading with your head? It's how you win.

Dean Says Voters Will See Through Flaws

By RON FOURNIER, AP Political Writer

LEBANON, N.H. - A humbled Howard Dean (news - web sites) said Thursday, "I have my warts. I sometimes say things that get me in trouble," but argued Thursday that voters will see through the flaws and rally to his troubled presidential candidacy.

"In other words, I lead with my heart and not my head. That's the only chance we have against George Bush," Dean said as he sought to recover from his third-place Iowa finish and the fallout over his scream-filled speech on caucus night that raised questions about his temperament.

1. Did he say anything was "wrong" with it?
Doesn't seem he said that, nope...

3. I seriously question he can beat Bush
if he leads with his heart.

We saw what the media did to him. They made him a national joke.

6. But how many of us does Dean's
"heart" include? No seriously, I love the point except I REALLY don't think Dean lives it.

Decent, humane rebuttals?

2. We're gonna beat Bush with our hearts? Damn straight, Doctor.
How will we beat Bush otherwise. The crucifixion of Al Gore should have shown ALL of us that being cerebral and cordial will NOT work.

Later.

5. IMHO, this is what repels me from Dean.
I am not interested in a candidate that leads with their hearts and not their heads. IMO, beating Bush is going to take precise movements, and we're just not going to get them right by acting on passion first. In times of crisis, cooler heads prevail.

8. "Heart" is where the courage to stand up to Bush comes from.
That's exactly what we need to beat him.

Kerry overthought and started voting with Bush.

13. Of course, that's not what I mean.
Bush doesn't vote, by the way.

Heart is vital in a campaign, but I think overrelying upon it can be dangerous. In the general election we're going to go up against a campaign with the money to pay for some of the best brains in the business. It's hard for me to see a victory against that when our candidate is giving speeches sounding like Vince McMahon.

11. I have an entirely different reaction to his statement
It takes no brain power whatsoever to know and understand that all that Bush stands for is pure craven madness. I don't need to go through the list, we all know what needs to change, although we may have relatively minor differences over how it needs to be accomplished.

What I think he is saying is that it will require passion to overcome the ennui suffered by many americans who don't think anything can change....it will take over the top statements to shock dullards out of the complacency and their shoulder-shrugging over "keeping a strong man in the WH to protect us from Osama"....it will take outrageous statements to get the media to report on Smirky's latests idiocy.....

I think that's where he is coming from. And I have no doubt that he has the brainpower and moral compass to do the right thing.

Anyway, that's how this strikes me, but I understand how some could be turned off by the statement on his face.

17. rational
Dean is a thinking, rational man. He's made that pretty clear, if you've been paying attention.

That does not preclude one from being expressive in order to rally his supporters.

7. Anybody here want a President
who LEADS with his or her HEAD?! (Not that the one we have now who leads with either, but....) Even this late in the game, Dean still has NOT mastered the soundbite. These words will could also come back to haunt whatever is left of his campaign after New Hampshire.

Yah know, I've come to conclusion Dr. Dean is not ready for prime time exposure.

15. We have a heart.
Who would you rather have as a leader? I don't want to say Bush leads with his head -- that would imply that he has a brain -- but we know one thing he lacks: a heart. How can anyone sleep at night knowing that they sent Americans to fight a war that they knew was unjustified and illegal? How can anyone sleep at night knowing that they are, even if in directly, cold blooded killers?

Personally, I don't see them losing much sleep. In fact the chump-in-chief is famous for his smirk. I'd say he's down right heartless, considering all the families he's broken up. All the hearts he has broken. And of course it wasn't just the war -- it's how he squandered our country and is running us into the ground. Why? For special interests. For his personal interests.

Dean represents the change -- the revolution -- of American Politics. No more "business as usual". It's time to run the rats out of Washington. It's time to restore the honor and integrity to the White House and our wonderful Nation! It's time to take back America!

YEEEEARRRGGGGH!
