Pelosi & Reid: Do Not Shift Medicaid Costs to States
Do Not Shift Medicaid Costs to States
8 March 2005

House and Senate Democratic Leaders Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid today released a letter Democratic leaders sent to President Bush today on Medicaid funding.

The leaders wrote: "We stand ready to work with you and the Governors to strengthen and increase the efficiency of the Medicaid program so it can continue to provide quality health and long-term care services to American families. As we do so, we ask that you commit to pursuing improvements that do not shift costs to the states, that protect beneficiaries from losing access to needed and affordable benefits, and that preserve the fundamental guarantee of health insurance coverage for eligible Americans."

3. It appears that the House Dems website has been changed...
I’m not sure when the House Dems updated their website but when I was copying the press release from Pelosi and Reid posted below, I happened to click on a graphic link I had not seen on Pelosi’s website before and I found this:

New Partnership for America 's Future

Throughout our nation's history, hope and optimism for the future have always defined the American spirit. Our tradition has been to expand opportunity, and strengthen family and community. A vibrant middle class and an informed electorate have formed the foundation of our democracy. That is why House Democrats have joined together to put aside partisanship and put forward the needs of the American people through our "New Partnership for America 's Future." This new agenda reaffirms the commitment of House Democrats to six core values for a strong and secure middle class.

2. I know my state can't handle it. We can barely handle our state stuff, if
they shift Medicare to the states, we will have a lot of sick people with no help.
