Is the focus on Candidates for 2008 a diversion?
Edited on Mon Mar-07-05 07:56 PM by shance
By the media and ourselves* solely to avoid the glaring, neon-sign issues facing us now, namely that today, election fraud is happening at what appears to be a nationwide epidemic level, and along with the electronic machines being used, etc, arent our elections are fake anyway?

Seriously, why is there such a waste on who the (gasp!) candidate will be, when we have done so little on a community/neighborhood level to address the fraud and corruption taking place?

It's a joke when you think about all the energy being expended when there are 300 elephants lying and dying in the living room because no one is even acknowledging that they are there, or atleast to the extent of true remedy, which seems to me to be to eliminate the usage of machines and optical scanning until there is crystal clear proof of iron clad security.

1. I think so. 2006 is more important yet the 2008 posts clog discussion
Edited on Mon Mar-07-05 08:02 PM by KoKo01
and turn attention on this forum away from 2006. The Media and some folks who post here seem to be fixated on 08. I DO wonder why.

It's boring, frankly. It's a Russert/Tweety/Sports Thing. Not Politics.

If we don't get back the House in 06 it doesn't matter if Jesus Christ was running as a Dem in 08. Yet, they go on and on disrupting us.

One does wonder. :eyes: Can it all be just enthusiastic new folks who've awakened?

3. Exactly. Are you involved in election reform?
I hope you are because we won't have a chance in 2006 either my friend unless we all become more active in our communities on this.

Kudos to you if you are, and we need to keep spreading the word.

4. HA! Up to my eyeballs in election reform....working hard on it since
Edited on Mon Mar-07-05 08:51 PM by KoKo01
this last "selection." We are making progress here in NC...I think we are ahead of most states because we have a great group working on it.

Including a Repug Hacker who is on "Our Side" and DU'es own David Allen (Plan 9 Publishing) who worked with Bevand another hard working new DU'er "Who Counts the Vote" who has been on this since 2000 who has a fantastic website that has given us much info to work with when this last fiasco occurred.

We have a great example here in NC of how the DRE's screwed up and two elections are still undecided because of those machines. Could cost taxpayers big bucks if we have to revote...

2. Yes.
The focus on the 2008 race is mental masturbation. If we don't fix the BBV problem and win some seats in 2006, 2008 won't matter.

6. thanks shance
for this thread

all the "who do you like in 2008" threads have driven me nuts. I've been saying silent prayers that Skinner start deleting them. It is terrible the way they keep filling page after page, and being a HUGE distraction.

8. shance
thanks again.

I hope you can keep this thread at the top, until many of those who post incessantly, the "polls about 2008", see it.

I got my name from something Dr King said...:)

11. I think so in the media
Here on DU I think it's people just talking and communicating since we "lost" both two. Why would the media care about 2008 right now since we're still in 2005? Definietly a diversion.

13. Exactly Freedom. We haven't even gotten to 2006 yet.
Seems to me we are going to have to keep reinforcing in each other to ignore and dismiss the media's agenda.

14. Why do DUers start threads dealing with such a pointless topic?
At this point.

We havent gotten to 2006.

15. Sometimes the 2008 threads strike me as supporters with agendas
Someone will post, fairly disingenuously, that they don't think it's too early to have an 08 discussion and then promptly suggest their chosen candidate. Sometimes I think that's the real reason several people want to have that discussion NOW -- so that they can push their candiate NOW.

And I hear that this is sort of normal, esp when 2008 will be an incumbentless year.

I have my fav, but at this point I'm more focused on 2006. It's too early and it seems fruitless considering we don't even know who's truly running yet.

16. Yes but
those who get mired in such discussion aren't a whole lot of help out here in the real world effort anyway so, other than the irritation of watching buckets of time get squandered, no harm done really.
