Get rid of Pelosi?
Do we need a new leader in the House? I've seen her on various talk shows and heard her speeches, and I'm not too impressed with her. The bigger question is do we want her to be the face of the House Democrats? I don't care that she's liberal, or even from the Bay Area. Tom Delay is arch-conservative and from Texas, we don't need a leader from Ohio to be successful. But she lacks charisma in my view, and doesn't appear very good on TV. She has no new ideas, all she does is bash Bush, which is fun, but we need someone better. During the Reagan years (6 of 8) we had Tip O'Neill hacking away at him from the house. Of course, we had control of congress then, but we need someone new, someone charismatic, someone respected, someone with experience, someone principled, someone better. Another Tip O'Neill.

9. Why do the pukes have a say in this matter?
Pelosi is a politician inhabiting
a political position.
.
Nothing wrong with that, by the way.
The issue should be, do you replace someone who is
competent, and who enjoys the confidence of House Dems, with...
some who either is ,
has/wants national exposure, or
is better at outreach to independent voters.

16. She's not good on TV - but she's a fantastic caucus leader
She's great at keeping the Democratic caucus united. She's gotten rave reviews from most progressive strategists and the House Democrats.

20. Pelosi has guts
She takes the argument to the Pugs and puts them on the defensive. She is a fighter. Imagine how much better off we'd be if we had Reid/Pelosi during *'s first term.

I think Tip has given up politics at least on this plane. Who would you think could do a better job?
Just curious....and BTW I don't think all she does is bash bush but he sure has done some boneheaded things. How could she not?

24. I Like Pelosi, but..............
I think Pelosi is very sharp. However, She does not seem to make a convincing case when answering questions from the media. That is why I think she was a poor choice. Harry Reid has been very effective, as evidenced by the way the republican Gestapo has gone after him. I have no problem with Pelosi's bashing of Bush, because he deserves it. But she needs to be able and willing to articulate what the Democrats stand for. I think the Democrats would be wise to put an African American in that position. There are plenty of qualified blacks in the House of Reps. It would drive the neocons nuts and it would re-affirm the Democrats loyalty and support for African Americans.

27. Cummings?
How about Elijah Cummings of Maryland or John Lewis of Georgia? If we do put an African-American in that position, it should be an experienced person who has good speaking skills, perhaps Harold Ford. Just not one of those "We was disenfranchised" folks, whom I respect a lot, but wouldn't do better than Pelosi has.

29. Just what the hell does that mean?
You'd do well to watch what you say in regards to such matters, bubba. Take your quasi-bigotted talk elsewhere, because there is plenty that suggest that Blacks were disenfranchised, not only in Ohio and Florida, but all over the United States. Your closet bigotry is all too clear.

26. I don't dislike her personally
because she is liberal or because she is female or because she is from a uber-liberal area, those can all be pluses. Most successful congressional leaders aren't moderate (Reid is an exception), and if she were to be replaced, I would want someone who would not back down from Bush.

But can the Democrats call on her in a tight house race to go drum up support? While I'll admit it's tough being powerless, she has not done a good job of proposing instead of simply opposing. The Pelosi house Democrats don't appear to the average voter (I know what they stand for, but most non political acivists don't) to have solutions or be FOR anything, except AGAINST everything.

The House Democrats actually did well in 2004, if you subract the Texas gerrymandering, which was impossible for us to do anything about. In the Reagan years, we were a formidable opposition. Has Pelosi met with Bush to work out solutions like the Democrats did? I like the way we are going about social security, and she deserves some credit, but the bottom line is she is not the face we want out there representing 203 Democrats in congress.

31. I liked her until she turned on Howard Dean.
She appeared at a fundraiser with him, which I went to, and was all over him as her "good friend". Then when he was running for DNC chair, she didn't support him.

I say dump her and get Tubbs or Maxine Waters.
