CSPAN 2 - Now - Christie Todd Whitmen - she's rockin
Trashing Bush and and the neo-cons. Hinting they had better watch out or there could be a defection of moderate republicans...

2. Um - that train has already left the station
after she whored for the Bush administration at the WTC and said that the air quality was acceptable and now at least 1100 NYC firemen (including my husband) have had to retire due to lung/asthma problems and probably thousands other workers also.

I used to like her and I would be happy if she would lead a rebellion against the neocons, but I think she just wants to sell her book.

4. well, she sounds very sincere to me. I'm not going to buy
her book or anything. But she sounds like such a breath of fresh air compared to the rest of them.

3. She was on NPR the other day...
she's got a new book out called "It's my Party too" about mod repubs. She talked about being uncomfortable with the policies the administration put forth in the odious "Clear Skies" initiative as being one of the reasons she left the EPA.
She sounded pretty sane. I was impressed. She's pro-choice and is alarmed at the hijacking of the GOP by the RW fundies who go after mods and try to get them thrown out. Interesting.

13. Yeah, it's interesting, but she is still Republican. I just
finished her book this morning. I had seen her on Jeopardy, and she seemed level enough. I appreciate her stand on abortion, and on gays, and on several other issues, but she still toes the party line regardless - at this point. She's always been a republican - small govt and all that. Yet, on the other hand, at least she points out that the "social conservatives" as she refers to the neo-cons are pulling the Repub party to the far right and pushing totally for their agenda. She calls for the moderates to get vocal, but I don't see her changing parties.

5. Moderate republicans have seen their party radicalized.
They have been treated lousy by the radicals in the "new republican party". She is definitely welcome to join the fight to take back our coutry.

6. She had an interesting point
Bu$h didn't have Dobson or Falwell campaigning for him in the last few weeks. He had Arnold and a NE Elitist in Guiliani campaining for him and both are moderate republicans. Her point was that Bu$h (or probably Rove) new that moderate Republicans could vote against Bu$h.

7. That was a rerun from the latter part of January
...when her book came out. It was a good program, though.

It always takes a few small voices to get the party started. I'm sure there have to be more than a few Republicans who feel uneasy about this administration, but who are overlooking their unease due to simple greed. Eventually, though, comes the tipping point. Someone has to start doing the heavy lifting, and she'll earn some street cred because she was one of the first to speak out.

8. Ditzy Clod Witless has a new book for sale!
Hear her speaking live, courageously taking the Bush Administration to task only four months (!) after the general election, decrying the takeover of her party by ideologues!

:eyes:

Did I mention that she has a new book for sale?

10. She could have made a difference and endorsed Kerry
At the end of the day she's just as bad as Delay or Hastert. Saying you're a moderate and supporting borderline fascists doesn't impress me.

11. She's still a republican - she's not going to completely flip -- she
also knows now that she can never run again, they won't let her. She stood up for something --No she's not a democrat but you've got to put her at least a couple notches up from Delay, no ?

12. people have changed parties over much less
Ben Campbell former Sen from CO switched to GOP because of some slight from the Clinton WH for god's sake. if, as you say she's so alienated from her own party that she can't ever run again - why not switch parties? her talk does no good. same with Snowe and Collins from Maine. Alawys described as moderates - always on board with Bush when he needs them. Please.

14. But you have to be retired to go after them because they will kill your
political career if you tell the truth. Man - I think we should lower the mandatory age of retirement to 55 and see how may people we can get to speak the truth then.

Though it's challenging as hell, we have to keep fighting. Because the alternative is far worse than we could ever imagine.

And I truly believe that these nut cases are a definite minority. True, they carry big sticks (with apologies to Churchill) but they're cowardly bullies (if there's such a thing) and the majority of Americans despise them.

They have no majority-- the only way they could go on for a second terms was to cheat... plain and simple. They knew they could never win without all the BS they pulled.

What a bunch of princes.

May they get what they so richly deserve in life.

24. I hate to be a cynic, but
I think the majority of Americans are clueless and apathetic. Then there is a minority on the right that is nuts and rabid. Then there is a portion on the left that is smart, good-hearted, and out of power.

She knew damn well what they were doing and didn't speak up -- did the BS "leaving to spend more time with my family" crap...if she would have said this stuff before the campaign I would think she was a hero, as it is, she is just trying to sell books after whoring for the polluters when she was in the positon to actually make a difference.

We could use them to divide the Republican Party and pull this country back from theocratic fascism. If we got our shit together. Nothing pathetic about that at all.
