Successful protest against Gov. Arnold today, I was there
Edited on Wed Mar-02-05 07:48 PM by caligirl
The Gov showed up at American Blinds and Drapery in Hayward Ca at 2:30 pm. Greeting him were members of the California Teachers Union, Hayward teachers, SEIU, Nurses from the CNA and some other labor unions I wasn't familiar with. At least three news stations covered it, possibly 5.
I was breifly interviewed by a reporter (I was later told was from KRON, he did the live chats with the San Francisco mayor, and public figures sitting in a local coffee shop in the mornings.) A gentleman in a brown suit by the name of Doug Dison was snapping photos he said were for a web site. I got his card. No web site listed on it.

I took my giant schnauzer(80#s) and my sign said: Meet My Dog for a Bone--Meet Arnold for $89,200 $100,000 www.arnoldwatch.org.

It was a nice event, Arnold has to know he pissed off the wrong people and they aren't going to let him forget it. I am an inactive nurse and was happy to have the chance to support california nurses, teachers and labor today.

1. Thank you for being there!
Arnie doesn't come to the SF Bay Area often enough for me to protest him; thanks for doing it for those of us who can't!

4. I was also happy my hubby ,on no notice, agreed to pick our son up from
school so I could stay for the entire thing. I made sure I was the last protestor Arnold saw by taking my big dog down the street, some of us walked down the street forming a line to make sure he got a lasting impression, my very big dog and I were the tail end of that line. He should know the breed, reisinschnauzer in german. Also some print reporters were there. The guy next to me jumped out to the black suv Arnold was in, in the front seat, and shouted some pointed comments at him with his fist.

21. It's too bad your dog didn't make a ...
"deposit" on Arnold's foot. The visuals alone make me laugh.

The Boobengrabber hasn't come to Northern CA yet and I really don't think he will unless it's in the middle of the night. People really hate him up here.

Bustamente took Sonoma County, where I live, by a pretty wide margin but it wasn't enough to swing the election. It's so pathetic; Arnold didn't really win a lot of votes because a large number of people didn't turn out.

agree with that. They also don't like the ones who say one thing and do another. Arnold is using the Bush play book and its backfiring.

Edited on Wed Mar-02-05 08:51 PM by caligirl
it was she who gave me the name of the business owner. The guy is a democrat. He owns American Blind and Drapery. Paul Russo. He has apparently had business with the Hayward Teacher union in the past. thought I would snoop around and see who he really is.

And one other thing, though I don't know if it matters, is the number of Chinese or Japanese men in suits who waited out front until the gov arrived. They wwent inside with him. Remember the film he did, he chose a Japanese fir he had done business with during his acting career.

18. I estimate it was 1500 but it was crowded and vocal
Edited on Wed Mar-02-05 08:48 PM by caligirl
At one point while he was inside the protest moved to the middle of the street , with a circle that was packed with vocal union people. I noticed the age of the guys there protesting for their pension was about 30ish. He did see me, because i went out to the end he drove past me within 10 feet, unobstructed. He and his driver took a look at my dog and did a double take. So yes he saw me.

19. Thats what has some of the teachers wondering about it too. We don't know.
Edited on Wed Mar-02-05 08:47 PM by caligirl
Arnold was suppose to be there on his petition drive for the $70 millon special election for his proposals. He says if he can't get cooperation with the democratic assembly he will just hold a special election.

We can afford $70 million for this, but not for health care, teachers, etc???

22. Well this has been a very successful day! There are at least
two other stories here like this. The good guy's won the battle today!

NC has two bills that a really have some teeth HB 238, and SB 223. I believe they just released this information and it sounds like a GLBT marriage amendment got derailed elsewhere in the country. Three very good things IMO!

3. CALIFORNIA SCHEMING
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/03/01/BAG0GBIHRU1.DTL
California's Labor and Workforce Development Agency produced and
distributed a video news release, narrated by a former reporter,
that promotes Governor Schwarzenegger's "plan to modify rules
detailing when and how employers are to provide meal and rest
breaks." The Los Angeles Times noted, "Unlike an actual news
report," the VNR "does not provide views critical of the proposed
changes." Some 18 stations played portions of the VNR, which labor
groups and Democratic officials called "propaganda." California's
labor undersecretary said the VNR was "clearly labeled as an
administration production," and they will produce more, as VNRs are
"an effective way to reach residents." A Democratic Assemblyman
said, "We all know Gov. Schwarzenegger is good at making movies. It
appears that talent has carried over to government work."

I can't imagine why people think being a Governor is so important when people like Reagan and Ahnuld think they are the right stuff and actually win.

Simian George. The notion of him as the governor of this great state absolutely nauseates me.
