DURBIN TO RECOMMEND LEFKOW FOR FEDERAL JUDGESHIP
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin today announced he is recommending that President Clinton nominate U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Joan Lefkow for a seat on the federal district court for the Northern District of Illinois.

The vacancy on the bench was created by U.S. District Court Judge George Marovich taking senior status. Judge Lefkow was recommended by Durbin following a judicial selection process in which a merit commission forwarded three finalists to Durbin. He also consulted with U.S. Sen. Peter Fitzgerald (R-IL) in making the recommendation.

"As a federal magistrate and bankruptcy judge, Judge Lefkow has gained the experience necessary to successfully serve on the federal bench," Durbin said. "She has served the Northern District of Illinois with integrity and has gained the respect of her colleagues. I am honored to recommend her for consideration by President Clinton."
