A strong "Independent" might kick both Democrats and Repubs asses in '08
Think about it. If a strong, independent voice comes to the forefront and starts telling the truth about the illegal war in Iraq, Social Security, the huge deficits, jobs being lost overseas, fat and happy politicians in Washington, and the general malaise of the voting public, he will accrue a lot of support from both Democrats and Republicans across this nation. People are starving for the truth.

1. True. But unless this independent owns the media........
His (or hers) message won't get more then yelling distance from his mouth.

2. I bet they get media time
Being that they would only pull votes away from the dems with that message, the media will give them airtime (in an effort to split the dem vote).

And neither the independent nor the dem would win.

4. I think this "Independent" will come up through the Democratic Party
and be a force to be reckoned with.

An independent, progressive voice in the Democratic party and tradition - with the internet tools of Howard Dean, and the organization skills and dirty trick of Karl Rove and Grover Norquist and Richard Viguerie -- we could rewrite the rules and win in 08.

5. A Ross Perot would have a good chance
Edited on Tue Mar-01-05 10:28 AM by TheFarseer
Someone in the middle politically with a plan that most people can agree on - like balancing the budget and keeping jobs at home. If that fruit loop wouldn't have dropped out half way through the election, he might very well have been president. I would have voted for him had I been old enough. I wonder if there are anymore Ross Perots out there.

on edit - does anyone remember what RW talk radio was saying about Ross during the '92 election?

9. But then you have to deal with
the ones who are easily brainwashed by the media into believing "a vote for Perot is a wasted vote..." I don't know why the "news" can't just report the NEWS rather than shoving their biased opinions down our throats...

6. If we could just get rid of the MSM corporate thugs, an independent might
have a chance. God, I wish a well known Dem would step up and run as an independent with a well respected Dem or Republican as a running mate.
But if we want changes we must start with 06 and ridding Congress of the devils.

7. I don't think there is enough middle ground for an independent
And our party chairman was in Kansas and is today in Mississippi to shore up our half of the debate in the red states. Over 900 Democrats roared approval in Lawrence, Kansas, last week!

Locally, in my county in Tennessee, we just held a county Democratic meeting last weekend, and over 51 people showed up! That compares with normal turnout in the past of 5 or 8.

Something tectonic is happening in our party, and it is a beautiful thing to see.

There is going to be precious little middle ground in '06 and '08, and our neoRepublican party "leaders" like Sen. Harry Reid had better realize that. The audacity of Reid, to say he feels Antonin Scalia would make a good chief justice! THESE ARE YOUR LEADERS, folks!

13. It was happening before Bush's 2nd term to
The Democrats didn't take advantage of it on a National level. I still beleive that Kerry won by a much larger margin then is being talked about, I believe that they sold out and handed the office back to Bush.

10. Who?
I'm not buying it, especially in the absence of an actual living, breathing strong Independent.

11. Sure would be nice to find out
I am disgusted with the behavior of the Democrats currently in power. I will never again vote lock-step except against Republicans. From now on I vote only for the individual and their beliefs and against the Republican Mafia.

12. Exactly how I feel AND I'm sure many others
if the Democrats don't actually #1 become a Party that truly WANTS to win back the Presidency, #2 Choose a candidate that will actually be a leader and not be afraid to speak out against everything going on #3 Aren't owned and operated AS a Washington Elite/Insider & #4 Actually have ALTERNATIVES to the other candidate.

When I see threads of support on Kerry being an 08' candidate, I want to scream! He had our support - most people that supported him did so - NOT BECAUSE THEY LIKE OR EVEN BELIEVED in Kerry, but because they were so ABB. After the tepid campaign he ran against the worst President in my lifetime, came Nov. 3, when he folded his cards and QUIETLY went away WITH his pockets FULL of unused campaign contributions - contributions that could have HELPED other Democratic Candidates that were strapped for cash. No, Kerry let the Campaign fraud go unchallenged (great leadership, great fighting for our votes) and LET Bush EASILY slide into a 2nd term. If anybody thinks that Kerry will have anywhere near the support he had last time, they are fools. People will flock to a viable Independent, the time is ripe for an Independent, after the 2000 and the 2004 Presidential Election disasters, yep, the time is ripe for the pickin'.

14. It would certainly redefine "democracy" in this country.
The "democracy" in which "those with the gold make the rules."
