New Zogby Poll via email
Did any of you receive an email from Zogby asking for you opinions tonight? Here are a couple of the questions they asked. I was surprised to see the questions about obscenity:

If the Democratic primary for president were held
today, which of the following candidates would you
vote to be the Democratic nominee for President?

Evan Bayh
Mark Warner
Joe Biden
Russ Feingold
Hillary Clinton
John Kerry
John Edwards
Bill Richardson
Tom Vilsack
Other/not sure

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has pursued a federal prosecution of Extreme Associates, a company that produces pornographic films, for violating obscenity laws. Do you strongly agree, somewhat agree, somewhat disagree, or strongly disagree that pornographers are violating obscenity laws and should be prosecuted?

If you knew that Extreme Associates' films depict the rape, brutalization and murder of women or women dressed as children engaging in sex acts, would you be much more likely, somewhat more likely, somewhat less likely, or much less likely to change your mind and favor prosecuting them, or would it make no difference?

The U.S. government is building a new generation of nuclear weapons, while Iran and North Korea are both suspected of having nuclear weapons programs. Do you strongly agree, somewhat agree, somewhat disagree, or strongly disagree that building new nuclear weapons while demanding that North Korea and Iran disarm makes the U.S. government hypocritical?

With the demise of the Soviet Union, an adversary with a large nuclear stockpile is no longer a major concern. Rogue states with nuclear missiles or small "suitcase" nuclear weapons are considered a much more likely threat. Do you strongly agree, somewhat agree, somewhat disagree, or strongly disagree that the U.S. nuclear arsenal has lost its deterrent value?

Do you watch the television show "The West Wing"?

Of the following, which Academy Award nominated actor or actress would you like to see run for public office?

Clint Eastwood
Johnny Depp
Will Smith
Alan Alda
Paul Newman
James Earl Jones
Mel Gibson
Annette Bening
Sigourney Weaver
Drew Barrymore
Meryl Streep
Whoopi Goldberg
Denzel Washington
Halle Berry
Other/none
Not sure

Do you strongly agree, somewhat agree, somewhat disagree, or strongly disagree that St. Patrick's Day should be made into a federal holiday?

If you could add any ancestry to your background, what would it be?

How often does your spouse or significant other listen to you in conversations?

Are you heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, or transgendered?

What is your birth sign?

There were several other questions. Interesting that they mix politics, entertainment, and even birth signs together in one survey, isn't it?!

2. i got it
I took the survey because I figure at least I can bring a liberal perspective to the polls. Well as I was taking it I noted that the questions seemed odd -- what are they trying to correlate I wonder?

who I voted for, movie stars and public office, what's my sign, and do I want to be French instead?

I'm still thinking about what it all means....

5. Thanks for the reminder
I received it a while back but couldn't get in. Just finished. Odd mix of questions this time around.

I said that I'd add "French" to my nationality background if I could. Hee!

9. call me weird
I wanted to add "Scandinavian" or "Nordic" to my ancestry, but it wasn't a choice on the list! How dare they omit the most civilized countries in the world.

Oh well, at least they had "Dutch" as a choice, for those of us who like what The Netherlands has to offer its people. :)

6. I got this. Where the fuck is Wes Clark on the list? "Morans"
The web site for the poll was it's usual slow, unreliable self so I just bagged it 1/2 way through. Why isn't Wes Clark there? What an oversight.

7. I noticed Clark's absence as well...it isn't an oversight, I'm
getting so cynical that I just assume it's deliberate.

Needless to say, I answered "OTHER"

They ARE assholes

18. Send an email to Zogby
comments@zogby.com and tell them that Clark should be included in the future.

15. Me too..
... nobody with the slightest idea of what is going on in the Dem party would forget Clark. Especially considering that at least half of the names on that list have as much chance of being nominated as I do.

10. St. Patricks Day?
And what was that about St. Patrick's Day? I didn't know that anyone was talking about making it a federal holiday. I voted "no" on that one.

14. Yeah, where the heck did THAT come from?
I'm of Irish ancestry and proud of it, but who'd want another federal holiday for that? Would take all the fun out of it, anyway.

12. I recently signed up to get polls from them
but I haven't seen anything yet. Anyway, I'm pissed off that they didn't include Clark in the primary question. They wouldn't happen to be trying to shape our choices for the nomination would they.:grr:

16. Got it yesterday
told my husband what a strange mix of questions it was. I was imagining his client list: producers of West Wing, folks of Irish descent, etc.

Why is the dang thing so slow. I really don't mind completing them, but geez, you have to sit here for 30 minutes.

22. If you answer yes to The West Wing question
There is actually a poll between Santos (Jimmy Smits) and Vinick (Alan Alda).

I voted for Feingold, but I really have no idea who I'm going to support. 2008 is a long way away.
