Americans Say U.S. Is Ready For Female President, Poll Says

POSTED: 10:12 am PST February 22, 2005

ALBANY, N.Y. -- More than six in 10 voters believe the United States is ready for a woman president in 2008 and 53 percent of the voters think Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, a New York Democrat, should try for the job, a nationwide poll has found

The poll, conducted by the Siena College Research Institute and sponsored by the Hearst Newspapers, found that 81 percent of voters surveyed would vote for a woman for president; 62 percent said the country is ready for a woman president; and 67 percent said a female president would be better than a male chief executive in handling domestic issues.

Other national polls have identified the former first lady as the favorite among Democratic voters for the party's presidential nomination. In the Siena poll, 60 percent of voters said they expect a woman to be on the Democratic ticket for president in 2008. Only 18 percent of voters said they expected the 2008 Republican ticket to be headed by a woman.

2. I think all this talk about a woman prez is to bait Dems into nominating
Hillary. The corporate media has been pushing Hillary 08 since Nov.4. And the Republicans will come forward and say what a good president she'd make, just to watch the hook sink deeper into our throats.

8. Your Point Is Valid
I've grown to be very wary of reacting in any way to the republican propoganda machine.

Part of me thinks that they've ripped on her so hard for years, partly out of repetition...they've done if for over a decade now, and they don't know how to stop.

Also though they tend to try and destroy those who they see as the biggest challege. They really built up Dean alot, saying things like "Oh yeah, please nominate him." then when he kept going and people didn't fall for that they attacked him hard and he went down with people thinking him a sreaming liberal, when really he's a fairly moderate guy.

Beware the corporate media.

3. I'd like to see who they polled.
How big was the sample. Where do they live? How many were men/women.

You think we had problems with the south and the religious right? Wait till you see the response to a female democrat, Sen from NY, whose name is Clinton!!!!!

OH God, I don't think my brain could take it!

5. I'm Curious To See A Breakdown
What are the percentages for Republicans, Democracts and Indpendents? What are the breakdowns based on who people voted for in 2004 and 2000? What are the breakdowns for men and women, old or young, etc.

And i'm not talking about the poll on the site, i'm talking about the actual poll.

9. I'm not so sure
The Republicans tend to attack those they're most afraid of. Maybe they really are afraid of Hilary?

With that said I wouldn't vote for her. After the 8 years of Bush we need a true progressive back in there to undo some damage, not a moderate who is going to try and mend fences. We need a fighter. I don't think that's Hilary.

7. You have got to be fucking kidding me
You mean to tell me that the slack-jawed mouth-breathers that elected Bush would vote for a female. Right. And pigs are flying out of my ass as I type.
