Dean:"I've been called a racist, terrorist, an abortionist, anti-semitic"
Edited on Tue Feb-22-05 11:01 AM by madfloridian
"So far, I've been called a racist, a terrorist, an abortionist and anti-Semitic," he added. "That says an awful lot about the Republicans."

Yes, Chairman Dean, it does say a whole lot about them. That is exactly right.

http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20050222/1030662.asp
SNIP..."Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean spreads his message of grass-roots organizing tonight at Alfred University and Wednesday at Cornell University in Ithaca, just days after his intense verbal jousting with new State Republican Chairman Stephen J. Minarik of Rochester. And in a telephone interview Monday with The Buffalo News, Dean labeled upstate the kind of turf already proving more receptive to the Democratic gospel.

"They don't balance budgets, they're cutting back on local school budgets, and they're loading people up with unfunded mandates," Dean said of the GOP. "That's been awful for places like upstate New York."

SNIP..""People talk like that when they're embarrassed over their candidates, or when they're gutting Social Security," Dean said. "They can't talk about George Bush, so they resort to personal attacks.

"So far, I've been called a racist, a terrorist, an abortionist and anti-Semitic," he added. "That says an awful lot about the Republicans." END SNIP

I find it ridiculous that Minarik keeps up the attacks and the charade on this Stewart thing, as it was proved he falsely identified the person in the picture he spread around. I think Minarik needs to hush, he is making a fool of himself.

6.  "That says an awful lot about the Republicans." Good statement.
They are so filled with irrational hatred, and with all these wedge issues that it does show them up for who they are. I like the way he turned it back on them.

13. Did you see Faux rerunning the "scream" tape over and over
last week? They were interviewing two pundits about Dean and the DNC Chairmanship. Instead of showing the pundits on camera, they ran the scream clip over and over and over at low volume under the pundit' voices. They are too afraid of him to actually discuss him without simultaneously dissing him.

what we really need is Iowa, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, the Dakotas, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Arkansas. 10. Why don't you write to our Democrats in Southern states? and ask them...
to invite him. In some of the Southern states, they are acting like 'fraidy cats. They are afraid of the big bad Republicans criticizing them.

I notice that the Alabama GOP is organizing against Dean coming to their state....I have yet to see an article about the Alabama Democrats standing up for him.

He will be in MS March 1.

It's rumored anyway not sure if he will be there or not. But SC is not running away from Dean... even in Natl. media our Reps are finally saying that Dean has done great things already for the Democratic party... engaging the otherwise less interested and bringing in loads of small donors.

18. I fear many Florida Dems are running away....proud of SC.
I am proud of SC for that. I am very afraid our Democratic Party here is being torn in two by a group called Florida Mainstream Democrats. They are a DLC inspired group, and they did not invite Scott Maddox, state chair, to their meeting. They did not invite the son of the former governor, Bud Chiles, either, nor Jim Smith.

They formed last year to show North Florida how much like Republicans we can be. That is sarcasm, but sadly it is true. I think they are trying to split the party into conservative/moderate.

40. He's coming to Vanderbilt sometime in March
Posted to knoxdemocrats Yahoo group on Fe. 9th:

"From yesterday's Tennessean: Howard Dean will speak at
Vanderbilt University in Nashville on March 22 at 7:30
pm as part of a weekend symposium on views of America.
Tickets are free for Vanderbilt students and 10$ for
everyone else. On March 21 Al Sharpton and Ann
Coulter are speaking. Sounds quite interesting and is
perfect timing. They had this planned before the DNC
race. I can't find the article I tore out with the
phone # on it, but info should be easily tracked down
through calling Vanderbilt's student activities office
or going to their web site. I assume this will fill up
quick."

14. Upstate NY bears much in common with those other places...
People often forget that NY is not a monolithic voting bloc. Rural upstate areas voted solidly Republican in the last election.

The thing is, though, that the NY GOP is in shambles. They're slipping, even in their traditional strongholds. Dean is trying to lead a charge to take advantage of this opportunity, and essentially wipe the GOP off the map there. Given the state of NY politics, specifically Pataki's ongoing implosion for just the reasons Dean cited, there's no reason he shouldn't be able to help that happen.

Plenty of cities in New York north of NYC, and they's nice and blue.

But that aside, Rural NY is a lot like rural VA, like rural MN, like rural TX, like rural CA, etc...

good day..so I said okay and made a zipping motion across my mouth.

But, I'm just not as indiscreet as I used to be for four years..people still say things to me about ..say..Social Security for instance and I quietly tell them what I think and suggest we go to the new expresso place in town when it opens and we can talk more about it..trying to make lemonade here.:D

The manager and her husband who runs the YMCA in town are both Dems and think bush is a disaster but they don't want to offend the bush devotees.

But, I have my big car outside with my Dean, Kerry, DemocraticUnderground.com, and Support The Soldiers stickers, out front ..so they can't miss it when they come to our store.

It's a small town and everyone has lived here forever and they all try to be civil..and here I come with my passionate, progressive take on our Country.

I guess, though, that I am cautious not to speak out too much in public here yet. Not as bad as it used to be, though, and it is not life-threatening to do so.

My neighbor and I actually dread for our husbands to go out in public alone....they are so angry at Bush and so outspoken.

There was a meeting about our new status as historical neighborhood, and we warned them to keep their mouths shut while we were there. They could not resist, though, and they irritated some of our neighbors.

One of them told them to quit insulting Bush. Our neighbor said, Ok, if he will quit lying. LOL I kept my mouth shut, and I put my hand over my hubby's mouth.

because the press distorted some statement he said about Hamas. Did he actually call them "freedom fighters?" I can't imagine him saying that and if he did he misspoke like with the confederate flag comment. I've heard Dean express some real sympathy for both Palestinians and Israelis in interviews, so I don't buy the Anti-Semitic bit. Also he is married to a Jew and both of his kids were raised Jewish!

53. Reminds me of an awesome quote by Paul Krugman
A couple weeks ago, Paul Krugman (economist at Princeton and writer for the NYT) and an economist from the (shameful) American Enterprise Institute were interviewed at length on the radio regarding Bush's ridiculous ideas on privatizing Social Security.

The AEI guy said, "well, Clinton was studying private accounts too."

Krugman's awesome response was something to the effect of, "you know it's bad when the only thing they can argue with is that Clinton was considering something too."
