Unbelievable caption on this photo.

US President George W. Bush (news - web sites), seen here after his speech in Brussels, joked that he would have liked to bask in widespread European admiration as 'a friend to humankind' -- but that he knew better(AFP/BELGA/Benoit Doppagne)

I don't know why I am shocked at the arrogance anymore.

1. I posted that pic on DU earlier today (but it didn't have the caption)...
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=2674358&mesg_id=2674358

I don't know whether to call it "encouraging" that he "knows better" or TERRIFYING.

We really have become the enemy of the world.

I don't know what he promised Chirac today to make him say "Everything is OKEE-DOKEE between France and the U.S.A."

Maybe a night with Pickles. Who knows. Who cares.

What a nightmare.

2. I think he's trying to be funny, and succeeding. IMHO.
He's an arrogant asshole, but he's using his "affable charm" to try to break down barriers. You may think he's a moron but I am consistently amazed by how he manages to have his way in almost everything, every time. Either he's got the goods on EVERYBODY, or he's the devil himself. Time will tell us which.

5. There is a related story to this photo.
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/usbusheunatooffbeat

<snip>

Bush quoted a contemporary's description of Franklin's standing in France, where "there was scarcely a peasant or citizen who did not consider him as a friend to humankind."

"I've been hoping for a similar reception," the US president quipped, drawing laughter that doubled when he added: "But Secretary (of State Condoleezza) Rice told me I should be a realist."

8. It's the spoiled Connecticut frat boy talking...
...you can just feel the arrogance, saturated through every word.

It's also a little discomforting to read this and place it into the context of his earlier remarks about "not caring how he's remembered in history, because he'll be dead and won't know what's being said about him."

On one hand he seems to get a genuine kick out of alienating people. On the other, he's clearly a textbook Oedipal case screaming for attention and approval from the world.

9. Paid shills.
What would you expect paid shills to say?

When you're rich, you can pay people to admire you.

Throughout his sorry reign, the shills on FR have maintained a daily thread called "A Day In The Life of President Bush". It's often graced with heartwarming photos of Bush and his dog Barney. A group of the same posters, who are either female, or pretending to be such, dutifully reports to these threads to talk up how "sexy" and "attractive" he is.

It's a classic "emperor has no clothes" situation, except without the famous child from that story (to tell them what they are saying is absurd.)

Look at that photo. Just LOOK at it!! How he has aged, even in just 4 years. He was certainly never a hunk, but now he's downright OLD looking.

The denizens of the "Day in the Life" threads are subjected to ridicule even by other freeptards. They are often ridiculed for their "menopausal crushes", or some such thing. And well they might be.

Even the freeptards don't believe what they are saying. But duplicity is lucrative in this administration, and so they continue...

6. "I'd ask you to kiss my ring, but I forgot to put it on today"
Actually, my first impression was of him being right in the middle of a limp-wristed gesture: "Oh, they're just being SILLY." (flip)

10. Hey, yeah--this photo looks like a side view of that earlier one
The one where someone here supplied the caption: "I got a MAN-DATE!"

LOL.

What is it with this guy and a limp wrist? I guess he can't always hide the fact that he's a cheap tart who associates with cheap tarts (such as Gannon/Guckert and the rest of the establishment press.)

7. Lives in a Bubble in the US
Bush lives in a bubble in the US, shielded by his courtesans from most people. Bush's crowds are handpicked, and he so rarely associates with those of us who disagree with him that he may actually believe that we are a small minority or don't really exist.

When Bush goes to Europe, he has to face reality. That is because he not only is greeted by loud anti-Bush demonstrators, but some of the European leaders disagree with him as much as we do. All that nasty criticism is apparently very tough on such a sensitive guy. (LOL) No doubt Mom Babs will get on TV soon and tell off the Europeans for making her little boy so sad.

Must be nice to be able to live in a cocoon and protect yourself from reality like the Bushies do.

11. Remember
that he isn't up for re-election so he doesn't have to be nice. He doesn't care about how he protrays himself and/or us.
