All I heard Monday on the news was that the Iowa results would get about 18 hours of press time before the SOTU - and after that Bush would get the glory/press for the rest of the week. That Bush was so smart, he purposefully scheduled the SOTU the day after Iowa so as to steal the fire.
Then I watched the SOTU and thought - this guy has nothing, he spent way too much time talking about terror - walking us thru the history and shading the history to make it look better - including his now famous WMD related program activities or whatever he is calling it today. He even ducked away from talking straight about the dead and injured in Iraq.
He had very little in terms of domestic policies to offer - nothing really. Worker training - but he has been cutting worker training, a few other things.
Weird stuff on steroids and athletes
And a few gems for the conservative right - marriage amendment etc.
But he was visually shocked when Democrats sat still, didn't clap -- or clapped at the "wrong" times - ie when he said the Patriot Act would expire next year - or at other points.
So last night, today, the comments and reviews for SOTU are actually pretty dismal.
And finally my point - I believe Dean's finish and speech in Iowa are becoming this week's equivalent of raising the terror warning - a convenient cover to mask another deficiency of the Bush Administration.
I urge all Dues to move forward from this, to talk about the SOTU with people, rather than feed the media game - on DU or otherwise.
