When the anti-war movement flourishes--who will provide the music?
Edited on Mon Feb-21-05 07:15 PM by TwoSparkles
In the 60's, the anti-war movement had Joan Baez, Jimmy Hendrix, The Doors, CCR, The Dead, Janis Joplin, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, etc.

What musical groups will play us into our next counterculture, anti-war era?

...and will Clear Channel stations be allowed to play this music?

1. It will have to be anti-corporatists, and there aren't many musicians
yet who are anti-corp. I predict it will be groups on indy labels, yet to be discovered.

3. U2 and Green Day have taken the first steps forward.
It would be nice if other musicians grew some balls or ovaries of steel!

4. Rage Against the Machine, Frank Zappa, Bob Marley
Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson, Roger Waters, and I'll give you one absolutely GREAT album to check out IDEIA ZABALDU by NEGU GORRIAK
Supremely killer Basque rock that will knock you out before you even read the lyrics in English.
Theres plenty of time tested stuff that will serve the purpose, it just wont be getting any AM airplay.

2. Steve Earl
Rage Against the Machine will come together again
there are talents that are currently being supressed by the ashley simpsons et. al.
I have hope that true music will flourish again! We just have to provide the context.

5. The question is, will there even be a movement?
It just feels so far off.

7. Eminem and Black Eyed Peas have done their songs already!
Eminem's MOSH is EXTREMELY powerful. Anybody who hasn't seen it, see it today! Unbelievable! It was made just prior to the election and I've heard he's changed it a bit since then. Part of it tells Bush to fight his own damn war if he wants to impress his daddy so much.

Eminem, MOSH:

Imagine it pouring, it's raining down on us
Mosh pits outside the oval office
Someone's tryina tell us something,
Maybe this is god just sayin' we're responsible
For this monster, this coward,
That we have empowered
This is Bin Laden, look at his head noddin'
How could we allow something like this without pumping our fists
Now this is our final hour
Let me be the voice in your strength and your choice
Let me simplify the rhyme just to amplify the noise
Try to amplify the times it, and multiply by six...
Teen million people, Are equal at this high pitch
Maybe we can reach alqueda through my speech
Let the president answer a higher anarchy
Strap him with an Ak-47, let him go, fight his own war
Let him impress daddy that way
No more blood for oil, we got our own battles to fight on our own soil
No more psychological warfare, to trick us to thinking that we ain't loyal
If we don't serve our own country, we're patronizing a hero
Look in his eyes its all lies
The stars and stripes, they've been swiped, washed out and wiped
And replaced with his own face, Mosh now or die
If I get sniped tonight you know why,
Cause I told you to fight.

Black-Eyed Peas did a great song with Justin Timberlake.

What's wrong with the world, mama
People livin' like they ain't got no mamas
I think the whole world addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that'll bring you trauma
Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin'
In the USA, the big CIA
The Bloods and The Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you're bound to get irate, yeah
Madness is what you demonstrate
And that's exactly how anger works and operates
Man, you gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love, y'all, y'all

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

8.  Marvin Gaye's "What's going on" stays with me to this day
And the other song whose artists I can't recall, "War, what is it good for? Absolutely NOTHING!"
