Everyone!! Check out UnderMars.com - warning tho - graphic photos
Not for the squeamish, but pretty appalling. Go to page 53 and look though pp. 53 - 57. Our guys even captioned the photos - this is sickening, but this is what we are doing over there. Sorry if this is a repost, but I've been away for awhile and just got back.

1. This is a breach of the Geneva Convention
to do with the treatment of prisoners of war. Some of the dead men's features are clear enough to be recognisable. The undermars.com web site dishonours the whole of the American military.

I asked for this site to be taken down last week - it apparently belongs to a FRIGGING CANADIAN (I ran a whois on it) who makes his pathetic living out of tattooing and body-piercing - and tomorrow I will complain formally to the Canadian High Commissioner to London.

16. i guess the * admin would say the Geneva Conventions
don't count here 'cause it's not a "declared" war? Or, perhaps it's because the insurgents aren't wearing government issued uniforms?

18. Showing the dead isn't the crime. Personally I think
that if you don't look at them you shouldn't be allowed to vote. These are peoples results of voting for a hawk. They wanted blood they have their blood and should enjoy it.

2. That truly makes me feel sick.
Not just the gore (although that is very sad and disturbing), but that the soldiers get so hardened by what they see everyday. I'm not blaming them. Their brains did what they had to, to cope. Is it any wonder so many come back and are violent?

5. "Is it any wonder so many come back and are violent?"
I've wondered this myself.

They are sent halfway around the world to kill people that have no quarrel with. Then they come home to possible situations in which they develop acrimonious relationships with their next-door neighbor.

How many of us have such a relationship with our next-door neighbor? I do. Started over a fence some 16 years ago. I have more acrimony for this SOB than I ever did for the Vietnamese people (I am not a veteran, but we were told to hate them nonetheless).

3. I wrote the woman
who is the webmisstress and told her that this was degrading and disgusting. That the guys who are making those comments have lost any shred of humnanity. I saw this in Vietnam and those guys are still suffering. She wrote back that she is doing it to help them.

6. "Shannon" is a fella
I have had enough of this. A few minutes ago, I e-mailed the Canadian High Commssion, the Amnesty International Office in Canada, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Red Cross, and my own Member of Parliament.

This is the text of my e-mail. Please feel free to borrow

This web site is doing absolutely nothing for the reputation of Canada. It is a breach of the Geneva Convention to do with the treatment of prisoners of war; and some of the features of the dead Iraqis are clear enough to make them recognisable. Warning: the pictures are horrible.

7. Unfuckingbelievable! Compare the captions under the photos ...
... with the site's stated purpose:

What is the goal of this site?
The goal of this site is exclusively to share photos of the experience of war, without politicizing, censoring, or editing.

How about tasteless editorializing!??!

8. I had a different take on this website -- I didn't know who was
running the webpage, but a lot of conservatives keep saying all we're doing over there is slightly exaggerated "frat boy" antics. I bet if the general Am. public viewed these pages, they might have a different take on this illegal war. It looks to me like a lot of these photos are of Iraqi citizens, not soldiers. Is this how we are liberating the Iraqi people? Nowhere in the MSM are photos like this shown, not to mention any dead or maimed Am. soldiers either!

And, as for how our soldiers are going to come back -- I'd say many will have suffered post traumatic stress disorder and be shellshocked and find themselves homeless on the streets of America eventually. Some will continue to inflict pain on others, but many will have ruined lives because of this.

10. Americans need to remember: Iraqis can access the web
Whether or not Republican or Democrat, you probably look at these pictures and think: Our poor boys must be so traumatized.

Iraqis - and the rest of the non-Israeli Middle East - can see these pictures, too. What do you think that their reaction is? I promise you, pity for US soldiers does not come into it. Even hitherto fairly pro-American people can be turned by this sort of thing.

Their reaction is more like: "words cannot express the horror and revulsion and hatred that these pictures inspire in me - the only way that I am going to feel better, ever, having seen these pictures is to kill every American I can and exult in the deaths of Americans at the hand of others - the more horrible the death, the better."

11. Actually....
Edited on Sun Feb-20-05 09:33 AM by Concerned GA Voter
There is NO editorializing. If you read the entire front page, the site owner posts every picture with the caption as it was sent to him/her. I'm not defending it, but it's not as though the site is run by some wacko who's making jokes. Seriously, though, read the entire front page.

I'm not sure I agree with the stated purpose of the site, but to link directly to a gallery page instead of the the site's front page (disclaimer) is probably giving people a false impression -- and casting an unfair light on the site owner.

Whatever, though. War is humanity at its worst. That shouldn't surprise anyone.

13. You make a good point, GA voter -- I posted this, but I hadn't
read the front page either. I heard about this site from the Bob Kinkaid radio show, where he directs you to the selected pages, but you're right, the link should have been to the first page of the site. I think it was the Kinkaid show of Friday, Feb. 18th. If you want to listen to an archive of the show (1 hr. program):

17. I can't look, but
Can you tell me what is there? I happened to see pictures of a similar sort a while back and it made me very, very, very ill. I don't react well to people suffering. I ended up tossing my cookies and having night terrors and, I ended up going into a flair. So I best not go look. I do want to know, however, what it is you are seeing.

parts and stuff strewn all over. I guess the worst part tho are the captions r soldiers added to the photos - mostly jokes like "this one needs plastic surgery" and other sarcastic remarks about the dead, which look like mostly Iraqi citizens.

22. We lived in a world where the news sanitizes war . . .this site is real
True, these pictures would be highly disturbing with one's suppertime news, or to have one's children see; however, I can think of no site that does a better job of bringing home the truth on the death and destruction of war. Death to the soul and spirit, death to the body.

What do you think happens to someone who is 18 years old and sees this for the first time, then is redeployed and redeployed? Most of us older people know Nam vets who have remained whacko as they struggle with haunting nightmares.

Most who deal with death regularly develop a macabre sense of humor to cope -- whether they are ER personnel, MEs from the morgue, cops, or combat soldiers.

I want this site to stay up and to be widely disseminated, especially to one's pro-war friends, co-workers, or acquaintances. War is the ugliest side of human nature -- real time battlefield photos bring it home.

24. Supposing an Iraqi mother sees her - dead and/or mutilated - son here?
Yes, this site is real. But you are betraying a horrible disconnect. What right have you to say that horrific pictures of real dead Iraqis - not real dead Americans (about 1,500 so far and counting) - covered in blood who have died in American custody and some of whom could still be recognised by their relatives and friends?

These are not dead animals, they are dead human beings. Dead at the hand of the so-called American "liberators" and "bringers of democracy".

If these galleries were comprised ENTIRELY of pictures of dead Americans - in their uniforms, recognisable (even if decapitated), covered in blood, having died terrifying and violent deaths - to which Muslims had added sick captions, would you still say the site should stay up?

Iraqis have just as many rights as Americans to be treated decently, in death as in life. God made Iraqis, too.
